A circa turn of the century oil on canvas painting of a creek and surrounding woods in the autumn of the year, 11 1/2" by 22 1/2", on canvas, and 17 1/2" by 29" in likely original frame, apparently unsigned. The work has survived over a century in excellent condition. No punctures or problems. There are a few chips missing from the frame. A pleasing, easy to live with scene that brings a sense of calm and reflection.

PAIR of watercolor still life paintings of floral subjects, 8 1/2" by 7" inside the mat (16" by 14" framed), circa mid 19th century, likely American (purchased in Maine). Note the exquisite detail and color. Hand drawn mats add to the vintage appeal. Later 20th century gold frames are in good condition. One mat has old browning/possible water damage at lower right, not affecting the art.

Scarce and interesting pencil drawing with some white highlights, on heavy paper, 15" by 20", of one of Quebec's most famous sights, "The Falls of Montmorency/Near Quebec". The work is signed at lower left "Blandford 1871" and at lower right it reads "Miss Alice Tiffany". This is a folky, somewhat primitive work, from an early date, of a kind that is rarely seen...

Norichka-TORPEDO BOAT IN ACTION 1895,14x28” Senso-e - Senso-e are prints depicting wars, most often the Sino-Japanese War of 1894 - 1895 and the Russo-Japanese War in 1904 - 1905. Primarily triptychs, these images filled the journalistic need for illustrations of current activities on the battle front, but also acted as propaganda, encouraging support for the wars and fostering patriotism...
English watercolor paintings on both sides of the paper, circa 1880, one side a lovely classic scene of several cows on a dirt track by a cottage with branching tree, the other side sheep grazing around a tree, a church steeple in the distance. The paper measures 11" by 15" and 17 1/2" by 13 1/2" in a modern frame (I suggest discarding the non-glare cloudy style glass). There is no signature nor other indication of authorship...
Hudson River School style watercolor on paper, 13 1/2" by 19" inside the mat, 24" by 30" as framed, signed at lower right "Byron Albee". This is a subtle, delicate, beautifully executed watercolor of trees and a line of stones next to a pond. Because it IS so subtle, it does not photograph impressively; but in person it is appealing. The work has survived the years in excellent condition with only a bit of well balanced overall browning of the paper...
Late 19th Century Oil on Canvas, 34" x 26". Portrait of a Gentleman (Not Signed). To date, I attribute this painting to have been painted by John Singer Sargent in 1880. This is a (not approved) portrait of a Philadelphia merchant named John White Fields. I named this portrait Merchant X by JSS. On 5/11/04 the Portrait was presented to the JSS Catalogue Raisonne Committee. On 5/13, the committee reported it could not attribute this portrait to JSS...
Beautifully executed, fresh watercolor and gouache painting of tiny figures overpowered by steep coastal cliffs, 9 1/2" by 21 1/2" (16" by 28" framed), signed at lower right "L LEWIS" and dated "96". This is a work by the listed English watercolor artist LENNARD LEWIS (1826-1913). The piece is exceptionally fresh considering that it was created more than 115 years ago. Colors are bright and the paper in excellent condition...

Fine early pencil drawing on wove paper, the subject a distant view of Windsor Castle and the Thames River (favorite subject of so many, many artists), signed at lower right "James M. Hart" and dated there 1855. This is a rather early work of JAMES MACDOUGAL HART (1828-1901) of later Hudson River School fame. Hart's major large scale landscape paintings have reached into six figures at auction, and sales in the tens of thousands are not unusual...
English Artist G.Sutliffe “Off The English Coast” Oil 21x30” Is a beautiful oil on canvas of a ship in a storm.
Oil on canvas river scene with fishermen, 12" by 24" (was 18" by 30" as framed---however I have misplaced frame and consider the work currently unframed), signed at lower left in red "Boddington" (EDWIN H. BODDINGTON JR, 1836-1905)...
An ORIGINAL drawing of a mid-19th century gentleman, 8 1/2" by 5 7/8" (16" by 13 1/2" framed), signed at lower right by the well-listed French-born artist, etcher and sculptor, ALPHONSE LEGROS (1837-1911). The drawing is primarily in soft pencil, with some watercolor in the suggestion of a chair, and some faint red in the face area. Legros was born in Dijon in eastern France. He was in Paris while still young, exposed to the art world there. By 1863 he had moved to London, where he achieved r...
