Condition - very good and original, very minor paint ripple in a small center area.

Vintage oil on canvas impressionist landscape with rounded low mountains, a country road passing red barns, 25" by 30" (29 1/2" by 34 1/2" framed), signed at lower right corner with what appears as "D Tutis" or "D Totis" or similar. Although the work resembles that of Vermont painter Earl A. Titus (1895-1962), the signature does not correspond with how he signed. So we have a mystery work here...

A painting on light blue illustration board, sizable at 24" by 36" including its thin strip frame, signed at lower right by artist B. G. Dorsey. The subject is a white classic New England home with green shutters, pictured in early autumn, the trees turning colors. A lone figure seems to knit at the side of the house, a rowboat is tied up at the convenient dock, and a sailing craft and the ocean beyond appear at left. The idealized scene is classic Americana...

This Abstract Expressionist painting dates to 1957, and it has a partial signature on the lower left corner. It measures 38" x 28" and has a small amount of paint loss. Notice the bright and unique colors and with heavy inpasto brushwork. On 5/3/04, I presented this painting to the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation for review where I had a brief meeting with the assistant director. The painting was not confirmed, however, the painting will remain under review and evaluation...

The artist was born in Illinois, working in St. Louis before moving to Southern California in 1918. He studied at Scripps College in Claremont east of Los Angeles. Wheeler started painting rather late in life, at 50, according to a label with biography affixed to the reverse side...

ONE OF TWO BY THE SAME ARTIST IN MY SHOP, IDENTICAL SIZE AND FRAMING, oil on board, 18" by 14" (22" by 18" framed), signed at upper right "LEE WILLKE". This work shows a Plains Indian with full roach and faintly mischievous smile. The complex surface is heavily worked. Oil on canvasboard painting of a green coast, a stand of foreground trees in late autumn colors giving fine depth to the scene. The artist did not sign the work, which likely dates to the 1950's judging from frame and board. There is a small area of flaked paint in the trunk of the most prominent tree. Overall a nicely done work that would be improved with a gold frame. Measurements are 20" by 24" and 26" by 30" framed.
