The image on the left was done in 1970 the other in 1971. The image at the left looks like 2 or 3 quick brush strokes. It is very delicate. It can mean clothing. The image at the right is heavy, many brush strokes, a complicated kanji. It can mean depression. It is Poem 71-14.

Oil on canvas still life painting, 16" by 20" and 22 1/2" by 26" framed, the subject several ceramic objects, including an oriental figure, an elephant, and a lustrous plate. The painting is signed at lower right "Elsie Crosam" or "Crosom", "Creson", or similar. The piece would be an excellent practice work for a budding restorer as there is a major rip in the center, as shown; or you might buff up the frame a bit and use it with another painting. There is light wear on it.

A lithograph or photo-lithograph of a poster of 1953 for the Galerie des Ponchettes, Nice, exhibition "Le Livre Italien Contemporain". I am not clear if this was an exhibition of Chagall works, or an exhibit of Italian books and how they may have been illustrated at that time, perhaps by figures like Chagall. I have seen online that this print may actually date to 1966, printed by a James K. Foster after the original 1953 image...

When I first saw this I thought it might be an image of Obama, in the style of Shepard Fairey, who created the now-famous "Hope" image. Upon closer examination I saw that it was obviously older, circa 1960's, judging from the label on the frame, which gives the artist as a Jim Moran of Visalia, California. The subject remains to me a mystery, but I wonder if it might be a famous 1960's African-American activist---or then again it might not be a black subject at all...

It came to us in what appears to be the original frame with the Walter Klinkhoff Gallery,Montreal, label on the back. An interesting Mid-Century abstract on paper, 12" by 16" inside the mat, 18 3/4" by 23" framed, unsigned. The work could well date to the 1960's, the paper thin and slightly browned. I am not clear on the type of paint used; it is not simple watercolor. Could be a mix of some sort; the gold is metallic and the darkest portions have a gloss when viewed at an angle. Final photo is from the reverse side through the paper seepage...
