A small unframed watercolor painting of an early adobe structure of Northern California, similar to the historical, rare structures that may be seen today around the plaza in Sonoma, 7" by 9 1/2", signed at lower right by listed artist JEAN G. WALFORD (1875-1938). Walford was born in England, but was in Berkeley by 1917. She ran an art gallery until her passing in 1938. The watercolor came from an old Bay Area collection.

The work is in an ornate turn of the century frame with a few missing chips that could be easily painted over in gold. What more is there to say---it is a classic little painting of its era, perfect for a small or narrow wall.

Also identified by two labels from Denenberg Fine Art, Boston, verso. 17" by 13" work alone, 20" by 16" in frame. Isidor Ascheim is an important Israeli artist who studied in Breslau with Otto Mueller and Fryederyk Pautsch. He emigrated to Israel in 1939. His works are in the collections of a number of museums.

Original 1956 Mourlot-printed lithograph poster after a 1936 charcoal drawing by the famed French 20th century artist HENRI MATISSE (1869-1954), printed for a mid 1950's exhibition at Galerie Berggruen at 70, Rue de L'Universite in Paris.
