Lucien Grand-Gerard, French, 20th Century, Etching, "Young Girl with Flowers", image size 11 1/2X9", pencil signed

Colorful oil on canvas unframed painting (24" by 20") featuring lily pads on a woodland pond, signed at lower right by listed California artist JOHN MARTIN HISS (1891-1972). It likely dates to about the 1950's. Hiss was essentially a talented hobbyist artist; he is best known as a physician and orthopedic surgeon who devised remedial treatments for disorders of the feet. The work is in excellent vintage condition. I note an inconsequential hairline scratch at mid right.

Original oil on board painting of a reclining nude as viewed through sheer curtains. Done mostly in sepia tones save for a black cat in background, the woman is in an almost sphinx like pose. A very intriguing painting. With original frame and in excellent condition, we date this about 1940-1950s. Signed by artist, G. Hummel in lower right, the painting with frame measures 29.5 inches x 18.5".

Oil on canvasboard painting of flowers in a Southwestern pot, another colorful vessel nearby, and an interesting checkered pattern at bottom adding depth and complexity to the imagery. The work is signed at lower right by artist A. M. WEBER, and signed again on the reverse and titled there "MEXICAN STILL LIFE". Measurements are 19 1/2" by 24" and 24 1/2" by 29" framed. The work could date from about 1940 to about the early 1950's. I do not see a listing for this obviously talented artist...

He eventually moved to the United States becoming a member of the American Water Color Society, New York Water Club, American Artists Professional League, National Arts Club, Society of Graphic Arts and the Century Club. Oil on canvasboard painting of gulls flying above the waves, the stern of a boat at left, 12" by 16", (17" by 21 1/2" framed), signed in ink on reverse ("Painted by Edith Fite"/XXX Magee 1951"). The scene reminds of how hungry gulls loyally follow the back end of a fishing boat. I have not located information on the artist. The painting could well benefit from a cleaning after about 70 years.

Measuring 16 1/4" by 21 1/4" (23 1/2" by 28 1/2" in its attractive and clean modern gold frame with liner), this is a beautiful impressionistic painting in oil by the noted orientalist French painter LOUIS MICHEL BERNARD (1885-1962). The subject could be a sunwashed port in the mountainous south of France, or, possibly, in Algeria or elsewhere in coastal North Africa, where Bernard spent much time. The artist was a student of Cauvy at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Algiers...

"Good Time" an oil Painting on board by the German artist Kurt Koch depicting a dwarf dressed in 17th century costume sitting near a table smoking a pipe and with a glass of wine and a pitcher on top. Watercolor with touches of gouache painting, on heavy grade watercolor paper, the subject a small ranch on a coastline, 18" by 29" (26" by 39" framed), unsigned, the subject I feel possibly in Hawaii or Australia, given the scenery and the obvious tropical touch (the plantation-shutters and banana trees, and the detail of the front of the structure).
