Federico Jiménez Fernandez was born in Madrid in 1841 and trained at the School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving of San Fernando where he studied with José Gonzalez Bande. He traveled to Paris to continue his studies, as did so many other artists of the time...

This image measures 5 7/8 X 8 3/4 inches. Printed on a laid type paper with watermark. This is an early printing between state iii/iv of iv. Very richly inked with extensive plate tone throughout. This sweet genre painting of a shepherdess with her flock reflects the theme of the child-of-nature, a sensibility embraced by Victorians during the 19th century. The figure’s youth and comely face convey innocence, while her steadfast pose next to the goldenrod suggests that she is at ease in her environment.

The matching pair measure 19 1/2" by 17 1/2" in the frames; the final piece slightly smaller at 19" by 16".
