Authentic antique Fine Baroque 17th Century Italian School Oil on Canvas of "Mary Magdalene". The painting depicts the penitent Mary Magdalene in her grotto with her face rendered with spiritual ecstasy and long red gold hair, in a sumptuous dress falling from Mary’s arms as she holds within her hands a skull, and a domed ointment jar which she used to anoint the feet of Jesus.

The image on the right is an enlarged study of the vest worn by the Mother in the Van Dyck portrait. The Portrait of a Woman and Child was painted in 1620-21 by Van Dyck. The unusual design on the vest matches that of Rubens. The embroidery design symbol means family love. Again, I believe this represents a Flemish Honeysuckle which appears in over 17 Flemish Old Master Paintings. A new lab report confirms the gold color is real "GOLD" on canvas!!

David Teniers the Younger (Dutch 1610-1690) copper plate engraving of men and perhaps a woman gathered around a table in a house with a rough floor, a bed alcove and some implements on shelves and hooks. The focus of the print is a man playing a violin while a standing man with drink in hand addresses him, perhaps singing, as is a seated man. Another man, behind the musician, reads and possibly sings from what looks like a broadside...

A PAIR of old engravings from the Passion of Christ series of 14, engraved originally in 1521 by Dutch old master engraver LUCAS VAN LEYDEN (1494-1533). My research leads me to believe these two are apparently later impressions printed on wove rather than laid paper, by noted Flemish engraver Jan Harmansz Muller (1571-1628). (Wove, as opposed to "laid" paper, was not invented until the mid 18th century). The talented Muller made skilled and faithful copies after earlier artists' works...

Printed by Richter & Co. of Napoli, the subject is a handsome young man, sword in hand, partially draped in the green, white and red of the Italian flag. The poster, "Prestito Nazionale", was created to drum up patriotic feeling to help fund, through bonds, the war activities in 1916...

This is a copy of the 17th century portrait of Rembrandt's son Titus around 1668. The canvas has been relined and is mounted in its original stretcher. The frame is a old replacement frame. The original portrait of Titus by Rembrandt is in the Lourve. We will try to determine the age of the canvas and more information later.

An original 17th century etching, "God Appears to Moses in the Burning Bush", plate 30 from the well-known series of 52 published in 1615 in Rome by Giovanni Giacomo Rossi, the artist being ORAZIO BORGIANNI (1578-1616). A Dutch 17th century etching of a standing horse near a humble abode, 6 3/4" by 7 3/4" (14" by 15 1/2" in 20th century appropriate black frame), unsigned, and with no initials or other indication as to authorship. The work bears old pencil notations on the reverse side of the mat; there appear to be names of potential artists that were pondered by a previous observer in my position (including, it appears, question marks to himself)...

Johannes Wierix, Flemish, 1549-1618, "The Betrayal of Christ, Agony in the Garden". This is a rare early engraving by Johannes Wierix after Pieter van der Borcht, printed with an image on both sides of the sheet. Each image measures 4 1/2 x 2 7/ 8 inches, 1583, a good impression on a very early laid type paper, published by 16th century book printer and publisher Christophe Plantin. One side of the sheet shows the 'Betrayal of Christ', the other 'Agony in the Garden'.

Unusually large detailed engraving, 31 1/4" by 20 1/8", laid down on board, of Christ coming down off the Cross, this example engraved by Nicolaus Dorigny (1657-1776), and possibly after Daniel Ricciarelli (1509-1566), in turn after a painting by Raphael. The work is dated 1720 at lower left. There's a lot of text in Latin at bottom, and a close look reveals the names of the two above artists. The print has gone evidently a long time without glass protection, so has acquired a few nicks and ...
