Benton Murdoch Spruance, American, 1904-1967, "Set Pieces: Vanity of Trust," lithograph, image size 13 x 18 1/2 inches, 1949, edition of 30, pencil signed, titled and editioned. Spruance studied in Paris after winning the coveted Cresson Scholarship in 1928 while attending college at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. He studied with Edmond and Jaques Desjobert in Paris before returning to the US and continuing his nearly forty year career as a printmaker.

A striking modernist work titled "Fantasia" and dated 1952, by Tucson Fine Arts Association member BESS WEST. The work , oil on canvasboard (18" by 14", and 18 1/2" by 22 1/2" in apparently original frame) is signed at lower right "B. Born in Germany, he moved to the U.S. in the 1930s, where he had a 1938 exhibition of his etchings at the Art Institute of Chicago...

Original diptych (deep etch on zinc) by Wendell H. Black (USA, 1919-1972), circa 1961. 12 1/2 by 23 1/2 each. Titled l.l. and numbered 7/25. Signed and dated "Wendell Black 61 by Elaine". From the first edition of this work, printed posthumously by Berkley Chappell, and signed by Black's widow Elaine. No lifetime edition exists. cf: The Lost Works of Wendell H. A well executed miniature of an English gent. The reverse of the painting identifies the sitter as Thomas Sheppard, painted by W. Bate in 1802. Presented in an unusual gold painted frame with the miniature displayed in the diagonal direction. The condition of the miniature is excellent, with the inside rim of the frame having a "ding" at around 2:00 o'clock...

Vintage oil on canvas impressionist landscape with rounded low mountains, a country road passing red barns, 25" by 30" (29 1/2" by 34 1/2" framed), signed at lower right corner with what appears as "D Tutis" or "D Totis" or similar. Although the work resembles that of Vermont painter Earl A. Titus (1895-1962), the signature does not correspond with how he signed. So we have a mystery work here...

Ii would estimate the age as 1970's, possibly 1980's. The work came out of an estate in Corrales, New Mexico, near Albuquerque...

Signed verso and titled "The Ripple", it is the last oil painted by Davis in 1926-27, from the estate of his widow. Impressionist oil on wood panel painting of coastal islands and a religious shrine perched on a scenic rise, 13 3/4" by 16 3/4" as framed, signed in Greek at lower right. This work has some age, dating perhaps to mid-century. The surface is a bit soiled and the frame has some wear at top corners as seen.
