Pastel on paper drawing of a rocky coastline with sailing craft offshore, apparently unsigned, 9 1/4" by 23", (16 3/4" by 31" as framed), circa 1900. The style of the drawing is reminiscent of that of American artists like Alfred Thompson Bricher (1837-1908). The popular and common pastel art of William Chandler also comes to mind. The work needs a new mat and the old acidic wood backing is best replaced. Otherwise for its age this work is in excellent condition.

A charming, whimsical, beautifully painted oil on canvas painting of a brown-robed man of the church in a spring forest setting minding a pig, while a vision of loveliness, a nude young female, appears at right. The work is unsigned but most certainly would have been painted by a listed artist, I would think around the year 1910. The piece is unframed and measures 21 1/2" by 18". The condition is generally good though a cleaning and varnish would be greatly enhancing, the surface now being dr...

Young Girl with Paper Dolls

Oil-on-canvas, Unsigned

Oval: 19” x 14 ¼”
Frame: 25 ½” x 20 ¾”

This charming study of a young girl intent on cutting out paper dolls is reminiscent of works by Berthe Morisot, Mary Cassatt and Pierre-Auguste Renoir (his earlier works). She is beautifully captured with her rosebud lips, her hair tied up in a bow, a lacy pinafore over her navy dress and stockinged legs ...

This painting is something of a mystery, in that it depicts a fantastic classic castle on a hill, obviously in the Old World, a donkey pulling a card in the foreground......yet, there is a modernity to the work, especially in the somewhat cubist handling of the lines of the architecture, but, also, there's modernity in the entire structure of the image. Painted on an old board, this measures 26" by 18" (30" by 22" in a modern frame). The painting is signed at lower right "M. Lieberman" and is ...

A circa 1910 small oil on canvas landscape of a forest pond, signed at lower right "O. Sch". This 3 1/2" by 5 1/2" work (9 1/2" by 11 1/2" framed) came from a local family of German heritage. Their art, some of which I acquired, came with the family from the old country. This work has some condition issues, as the canvas over the decades has buckled, with sharp horizontal roughly parallel "ridges" now apparent, as well as craquelure. The canvas was laid years ago on a panel and evidently it h...
