Contemporary (late 20th century) oil on canvas painting of a lighthouse, and coastal rocks and sea birds, a tall ship at right, signed at lower left by American gallery artist CRAIG SMITH. The work measures 24" by 30" (31" by 37" framed). The scene resembles Portland, Maine's famous lighthouse, but a business card of the artist affixed to the reverse appears to say that this is a Nova Scotia, Canada scene...
Daniel Tretiak tells us that in 1967 Haku Maki produced an alphabet series, Poem A-Z. He did all the letters of the English alphabet. This is Poem W, a strong rendering of the hiragana for You. Tretiak says: The image has a bold white sun in the top half with two dashes of rain-like strokes. It is in wonderful condition.
The print is number 23 of an edition of 50...
An oil on board painting of flowers in a green vase against a tan/brown background, signed at lower left with monogram of a capital "B" in a circle. The oil, 12" by 9" and 16 1/2" by 13 1/2" framed, was beautifully painted by an unknown hand. For a number of years I have attempted to learn the identity of the artist, so far without success. The board size and handwriting on reverse suggest the artist was American...
Original oil painting on panel by Henry Kallem (American, 1912-1985), circa 1966. 16" by 12", painting alone. One of a number of William Russell Flint prints in my shop, this is a fresh and clean example of the fine Flint photolithographs issued for collectors over a period of decades. This example, published in 1957 in an edition of 700, is signed in pencil at lower right and bears the characteristic embossed blindstamp in lower left margin. The title is "Rosa and Marissa". The print measures 18 3/4" by 24 3/4" inside the mat and 27" by 33 1/2" as framed...
Oil on canvas painting of incoming waves, painted in an impressionist manner, 15 1/2" by 23 1/2" (19 3/4" by 28" framed) signed at lower left and dated 1906 by listed Danish artist VIGGO LAURITZ HELSTED (1861-1926). This is a pleasing scene and quite typical of the artist's work. He was known for coastal and marine paintings as well as landscape in Denmark...
Etching of a lady removing her slipper, 6" by 7 3/4" inside the mat (13 1/2" by 14 1/2" framed, to be shipped with no glass), pencil signed at lower right margin by the noted French twentieth century master ANDRE DUNOYER DE SEGONZAC (1884-1974). This is a beautifully executed work , showing the artist's skill in draftsmanship and the graphic arts. Like many of his works, this image is suggestively erotic in nature...

The world we saw and felt in that way, it is said that the blessings are as endless as the sea.
Some marks are present on the painting itself....
Vintage and early Hawaiian art is scarce to rare, and desirable. This is a 1932 etching, "Hawaii Hall", one of the principal buildings of the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus, on Oahu. It is pencil signed at lower right margin. An image of this print is included in the university's yearbook for 1932. The work is presently unframed, behind a mat, and it is simply taped at top edge. Fisher was an art instructor at the university certainly in the 1930's and, from what I can see after onlin...
Large (22" by 36", unframed) pastel drawing on heavy paper, which has been in turn laid on canvas, signed at lower left center by the well-listed American landscape artist GEORGE DOUGLAS BREWERTON (1827-1901). The impressive drawing features a Hudson River School-like landscape with no figures, the hazy ball of the sun dominating the sky. The overall effect is one of Luminism. Brewerton led a fascinating life for his times. Born in Newport, Rhode Island to a military family (West Point), he ...
A watercolor on artist paper depicting from street level through leaves and trees soaring buildings behind a high wall with a 19th century brownstone to one side. I can’t identify the place, though the brownstone is vaguely similar to the Villard Houses. James Penney (American 1910-1982) was a painter in oils, watercolor and a muralist with numerous exhibition records and works in museums and public buildings. He also taught art. He attended the Art Students League in New York in the 1930’s...
This is a true lithograph, numbered 170/200 at lower left margin, pencil signed by the artist at lower right, the title of the work given on reverse label as "My Beloved is Like a Roe". The lithograph is by the important Jewish artist THEO(DORE) TOBIASSE (1927-2012). Tobiasse has often been compared to Chagall and Picasso, with his figure-based, personal, dreamy interpretations of themes like the exploration of one's heritage, exile, and Biblical and erotic fantasy. He was born in Israel, moved...
Oil on canvas painting of the famous cathedral at Taxco, Mexico, (historical town outside of Cuernavaca, popular with tourists and artists due to its setting, history and architecture), the work dating to late 20th century, signed at lower right "N Prevo". Measurements are 27 1/2" by 36" and 31" by 39" framed. Note the detail captured by the artist in the left portion of the composition, especially the tiny figures and animals, tiered houses with their red tile roofs, and the two mothers holdi...
Lithograph on paper, 8 3/4" by 12 3/8" inside the mat, 13 3/4" by 17 3/4" as framed, by American artist STOW WENGENROTH (1905-1978), pencil signed at lower right by the artist. Titled "Woodland Ledge" (created 1960 in an edition of approximately 50 examples for associate members of the Print Makers Society of California), this is a typical work of Wengenroth, who is today best known for his fine lithography work consisting mostly of scenes of the Northeast coast from Long Island to Maine, and a...
An impressionist watercolor painting titled on the backing "CHARLES RIVER", 18 1/2" by 29 1/4" inside the present mat, 30" by 42" in attractive grayish weathered-wood style frame, signed at lower right corner by artist JIM HUGHES. This is a likely circa 1960's or 1970's work, the subject the 80 mile long river in eastern Massachusetts that runs in a generally north and east direction from its source in Hopkinton southwest of Boston. Famously, it runs between Cambridge and Boston and its banks ...
A vintage watercolor painting, circa 1965 perhaps, featuring a northern New Mexico church, perhaps the famous one at Ranchos de Taos, although it also vaguely resembles the iconic sanctuary at Chimayo. Or, perhaps it is intentionally a composite of many of the wonderful old churches of northern New Mexico. This piece measures 20" by 24" inside the mat and 30" by 34" as nicely framed in blanched wood. An internet search has not revealed an artist that might be matched to this work. Further resear...
Etching on paper of the New York City elevated train line known popularly as "The L", as in "elevated line", and so titled ("The L - 23rd St. N.Y.") in a separate window in the mat, the primary image area 12 3/4" by 9 1/2", 21 1/2" by 17 1/4" as framed, signed at lower right in pencil, bearing the inscription "For Mr. Paul G. Sprunk from H. Van Notti--1923", and numbered "6" at lower left margin. The scene depicted is familiar urban scenery to any New Yorker or New York visitor. HENRY VAN NOTT...
This is a drawing in ink, 16 3/4" by 12 1/2" (25 1/2" by 21" in its old stained oak frame), signed at lower right by English-born artist Frederick (Fred) Sommerville Morgan (1865-1932). The name "Fred Morgan" is typically quickly associated with a major British impressionist painter, known for his sentimental genre paintings of little girls and their St. Bernard type dogs, in idyllic landscapes, (which bring to the half million dollar range at major auctions). Originally I thought this an atypi...
An impasto oil on copper painting by California artist,Ray Thomas Platt. Born in Texas in 1897,Platt moved to California during the 30's with his wife, artist Beulah Bradleigh Platt.

**(TWO EXAMPLES OF THIS PARTICULAR PRINT AVAILABLE)**one of a number of Flint signed color prints in my inventory**, this is a fresh and clean example of the 1967 print "Interlude", one of an edition of only 850 examples, signed in pencil at lower right and bearing the characteristic embossed blindstamp in lower left margin, and, in the image, "F & R (Frost and Reed) and "1967" at lower left. The print measures 13 1/2" by 22 1/2" inside the fancy hand decorated mat and (24" by 33 3/4" as fra...
Watercolor on paper landscape of lush green mountains of Kauai, a mother and her child, palm trees and an historical one story building, the Waoli Social Hall, originally built in 1841 during whaling days as a mission church, the painting measuring 18 1/2" by 25" inside the present mat (presently unframed), signed at lower right "D Williams". The work is not dated but I would guess it would have been created around the late 1960's or early 1970's. I do not see a listing for this name but furth...

A rare print by surrealist print maker Ozaku Seishi, professor emeritus from Tama Art University. He is best known for small edition etchings, usually up to 30 copies, limitless experimentation with printing techniques and surrealist, often graphic imagery resembling distorted reality ¬neither quite explicit nor quite horror, but rendering a fairly dark version of dreams.
This lithograph on Arches paper is from a 1994 portfolio titled “Constitutional Fantasy”, vol. 1 (憲法幻想その壱...
One of a number of prints by this artist in my inventory, this is a fresh and clean rather early example of one of William Russell Flint's fine color reproductions issued in limited editions for collectors over a period of decades. This one is signed by the artist in pencil at lower right and bears the characteristic embossed Fine Art Trade Guild blind stamp in lower left margin. The title of this image, which was issued in the year 1942 in an edition of 500 examples, is "Mirror at the Ballet". ...

The print measures 18" by 24" (26 1/2" by 32" as framed). According to information on the net, Chazalet is a small medieval period town in central France near the famed ceramics town of Limoges. WILLIAM RUSSELL ...
Seventeenth Century Lithograph of Carol of Souther Bremen c.1630 Measuring 14x10”
An interesting Southwestern painting of a sunny courtyard in a Spanish-style building (church or mission) of the American Southwest---likely California, or Mexico---glimpsed through a grand old doorway, signed at lower right by artist Laurence McLaughlin. The 18" by 24" painting (26" by 31 1/2" framed) is not old (maybe 1970's or 1980's) but the traditional subject and technique could make it pass for an older work. Surprisingly I have not been able to locate a listed artist by this name. The...
A beautifully crafted impressionist painting of colorful zinnias in an oriental bowl, set on a table top, a shiny coppery or brass pitcher at right, signed lower right by listed Ohio-born, California and Utah artist Frederick Ruthrauff (1878-1932). The 13 1/2" by 11 1/2" oil on canvas laid on board painting (17 1/2" by 15 1/2" in attractive old vintage gold frame) is in excellent, fresh condition; has likely been professionally cleaned in recent years. Ruthrauff was born in Findlay, Ohio. The...
Female Chinese Ancestor Portrait. Unsigned Gouache Print. 9 x 6". Frame Size 12 x 8".
This pencil/watercolor drawing on heavy paper, 34 1/2" by 24 1/2" is actually signed by the artist, one "Sil Marraccini" at lower right and is dated 2/11/39. Originally intended as architectural plans, it would today easily qualify as a late Deco/early mid century art work on its own accord. I believe I acquired this in the San Francisco area, where Bank of America began. No doubt this was a plan for the interior details and exterior elevation of a branch of the bank. This has been rolled fo...
Oil on canvas painting of flowers in a vase, "Gladiolas", 21" by 18", signed at lower right "Shimo" and dated there 59. The artist is OSAMU SHIMODA (1924-2000). This work came out of an eclectic collection of mostly mid 20th century Hawaiian art, much of it apparently purchased in Hawaii at that time; this one retains an old label on stretcher from Sima's Art Gallery, Ala Moana Center, Honolulu 14, Hawaii. Shimoda was a part of the Nitten artists group in the early 1950's immediately after th...
A set of eight framed collotype color prints after paintings by famous western American artist FREDERIC REMINGTON (1861-1909), originally published by Collier's Magazine, which had a contract with Remington. He was to paint a painting a month, and the prints derived from the painting would be widely distributed. The prints all bear in tiny type at lower left margin "COPYRIGHT 1909 BY P.F. COLLIER & SON". The titles of these eight prints: "The Warrior's Last Ride"; "With the Eye of the Mi...
This is a powerful study of a man, in pencil, chalk, and gouache, signed at lower right by artist ROBERT SPRINGFELS (1911-1984). The drawing is on paper laid on Masonite. Measurements are 28 5/8" by 22 3/4" and a 1 1/4" wood frame with considerable character and patina. There is a printed out note on the reverse which states that the artist exhibited at the Butler Art Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio in 1965. Springfels was the original set designer for Cecil B. DeMille Motion ...

A nice modern oil painting, unframed(30x30cm).
Sighned H.R.2021
This is a contemporary work, signed at lower right "Christopher Clarke" and dated there "83". Measuring 11 5/8" by 16 5/8" inside the mat and 19" by 25" as framed, the work reminds of accomplished watercolor painters like Frank Weston Benson, Ogden Pleissner, Chet Reneson, and others who skillfully rendered duck hunters and their prey. Oddly I don't see a listing for this artist but he was clearly very talented. Note the wet-on-wet technique in the sky area. The work is in excellent, fresh c...

Oil on canvas extensive view of a town of red-roofed houses by the sea, a colorful garden and balustrade railing in the foreground, executed by an unknown artist, likely in the latter years of the 20th century. The artist painted a highly impressionistic work (27" by 31", 35 1/2" by 40" framed) in cheerful, light, sunny colors. The work is very decorative and is in perfect condition, so would be an item that you could hang on the wall immediately. Frame is in almost perfect condition as well....
