These appear to be the same images that appear on US currency, and the very high quality of the printing (intaglio?) is similar. Young Flute Player is the title of an oil painting by Benedetto Luti from the 1720’s, now in the Hermitage. An earlier version by Luti depicted a young boy in a blue jacket without any instrument. This engraving, made by Victor Marie Picot was published in London in 1780 as Boy and Lute, obviously mixing up the motif and the artist (!). Contributing to this is probably the Walpole family crest having been pushed in between the letters of the title...

TWO pen and ink drawings, identical size and frames, 9 7/8" by 7 5/8", one titled "Down the Gulch" and the other "Slave Quarters, Glen Haven, Colo.", each signed "A.C." and one dated 1936. I don't know who "A.C." might be/have been, but, if you collect Colorado art, you might like this pair of drawings of a mountain road and a mountain cabin. You might wish to reframe them. This is a difficult to describe painting----we see a beach on a summer's day, the blue sea beyond; budding clouds, a spiky yucca at left, and what look at first like children's sandbox toys in the sand, until it appears that maybe they're not children's sandbox toys. Crayon drawing on paper of village rooftops in a European mountain setting, 8 3/4" by 11 3/8" inside the mat, 14 1/2" by 17" in simple strip frame (not pictured), unsigned. An old watercolor painting titled at lower left "Atitlan Guatemala", signed at lower right by artist "M. Moody". This may be a listed watercolor artist by the name of Marion Moody but that cannot be confirmed. The work is well handled, the old architecture and five foreground figures nicely painted. Lake Atitlan is a famous scenic lake in central Guatemala, ringed by volcanic peaks and popular with tourists to this day. The painting measures 9 3/4" by 13" (13" by 17" framed).

A very interesting etching of what appears to be Paris' Montmartre section, (the windmill a famous feature, painted by many artists), signed in pencil in the lower right margin "B. Vilard". Surprisingly I do not see a listing for an artist by this name---could possibly be a pen name.. The work measures 8 1/2" by 11" inside the mat and 13 3/4" by 16 1/4" framed. It is very clean and fresh, despite likely dating to the first half of the 20th century. Note the subtle blue/brown colors.

Another painting: Breaking the 9th - Prequel. At times painting peaceful landscapes may not be enough and the painter must "exorcise" nightmares nocturnal or otherwise with the help of acrylic and brushes to produce a Fauve like non-painterly work. Nightmare series - nocturnal or otherwise.
