This drawing possibly by a youngster is a true survivor, coming up on two centuries of age. It is in good condition with corners glued to a backing sheet, and lower right corner is missing...

Crayon drawing on paper of village rooftops in a European mountain setting, 8 3/4" by 11 3/8" inside the mat, 14 1/2" by 17" in simple strip frame (not pictured), unsigned. The artist was talented but unfortunately remains anonymous. There are a few scribbles on the reverse side of the paper (see last image). The work dates to the first half of the twentieth century. It is in good condition, consistent with its age; some paper toning and very slight ripple.

Drawing, I believe in charcoal, 12 3/4" by 18 1/2" inside the matting, framed, but no glass, signed at lower left "M. Moss" and dated "March '93", the subject a large wooden house on a lake surrounded by mountains, small boats tied up in front. I think this is American but I suppose it could also be English; I'm undecided..........though, the framing suggests would make me lean towards American, as the reverse was backed by the typically American wood slats with knotholes...

An early pencil drawing of a charming country house (barn/hayloft?) with thatched roof, a group of figures conversing outside. A pair of mules, a split rail fence, and plane tree complete the scene. The work is unsigned. Measurements are 8 1/2" by 11 1/2" inside the mat. Someone decided to re-use a modern mat that had evidently been used on a print, as there are numbers on it as if from an edition...

TWO pen and ink drawings, identical size and frames, 9 7/8" by 7 5/8", one titled "Down the Gulch" and the other "Slave Quarters, Glen Haven, Colo.", each signed "A.C." and one dated 1936. I don't know who "A.C." might be/have been, but, if you collect Colorado art, you might like this pair of drawings of a mountain road and a mountain cabin. You might wish to reframe them. If anyone knows who the artist is, please do let me know.

Acquired as one of a number of works by late Bozeman, Montana artist MARION "MAL" LEWIS (1925-2010), this is a crayon drawing of a landscape with trees and a small body of water, 8" by 11", (loosely attached to a white mat), likely dating to late in the artist's life. While traveling through Montana I came upon a group of mostly collage, abstract works by this artist, though there is at least one non-abstract work, a New Mexico drawing, that I have listed...

A highly detailed nineteenth century PENCIL DRAWING, NOT A PRINT, featuring a classic turreted castle, with numerous (approximately twenty) figures completing the scene, unframed, 7" by 9 1/8". The artist signed at lower left corner "F. Pohl", and "1846" is written on the reverse. Nearby are two blue stamps that could be collector stamps. Condition is excellent, needs a frame.

Ink drawing "Wooded Road", measuring 11" by 16", unframed, circa 1930's or 1940's, signed at lower right by listed American artist ISOLDE THERESE GILBERT (1907-1986). There are two labels, discovered when the piece was opened up (frame is low quality and worn). One red-bordered label gives the artist name, work's title, and size; another, of The City Library Association, Springfield (MA) Museum of Fine Arts, again provides title/artist name...

A vintage study in charcoal of an infant on its back, 12" by 15" (16" by 19" framed), signed at lower right with what appears as "H Collins", and dated adjacent Sept. 14, 1953. I do not see a listed name that would correspond with this name or variants of it. The study is artistic, reminiscent of timeless Italian Renaissance drawings. There is age toning of the paper and some lighter, whitish areas at lower left, above the infant's left arm, and at lower right.

Ink on stiff paper drawing, 11 3/4" by 9 5/8", signed at lower right "O. R. Shattuck --1917--" and in the lower right margin "LIVE OAK, FLA. FEB. 1917". The artist is OLIVER R. SHATTUCK (1887-1953). The subject is a boy or young man, possibly a black man, in a small canoe-like boat, deep in the heart of a classic southern cypress swamp, the Spanish Moss hanging form the trees and brush...

Drawing on paper executed in soft pencil, 7" by 8 1/4", essentially unframed (in a protective frame only), the subject an arid desert landscape butte under a crescent moon, the drawing signed at lower left "ARCH SINCLAIR". There is a listing for an Archie Sinclair (1895-), a student of Henry Keller. Sinclair is listed in many reference works. He is said to be associated with Oregon, so, this might be a scene from the dry eastern part of that state. Evidently he worked in the east as well...

Drawing of a nude woman lying on her side, 10 1/4" by 15" inside the mat, 16 1/2" by 20" in frameless protective framing, signed at lower right "Sean Mayten" or similar, and dated there 1-13-86. The artist does not appear to be listed, at least under that name or variants of it. He seems to have used perhaps grayish-tan silverpoint or other unusual medium to draw this on a pebbled paper...

A 19th century European pencil drawing of a classical male figure seated on a drape, holding a staff and a round object, signed with initials at lower right with what appears as "MLB". There is no other hint as to the identity of the artist. The paper has no watermarks. Measurements are 9 1/2" by 7" inside the mat, 14 7/8" by 11 1/4" in inexpensive modern frame behind non glare glass.

Drawing on paper, 6 1/2" by 9 1/4" the scene only, 9 1/2" by 12 1/2" as framed, signed at lower right, followed by "fec. 1818" (abbreviation of the Latin word "fecit", meaning "executed", in that year). Try as I might, I cannot make out the name. I've tried Pfohl, Pfahl, Pigott, and so on. A PAIR of detailed ink drawings, one titled "The Cottage", featuring a tidy home in the English countryside, the other a dated 1911 detailed look at a Gothic church's walls and entrance portal. Affixed to the crumbling old backing is a label for "The Cottage", showing it apparently won the "John J. Burnet Prize" for Alex Nicolson, who was evidently a student in "Club No. 129". So Nicolson was evidently a talented young artist. The drawings were found framed but the crumbling frames were falli...

A wild crayon and pencil on paper drawing of bizarre abstracted forms that might be described as "organic", the drawing tacked at four corners to a larger board that is itself painted decoratively. The work, 22" by 18" framed, is signed with initials at lower right that could be "BK" and the date is "02". This was found in Southern California. The artist worked a lot of hours to produce this. Both drawing and gold frame are in very good condition.
