Russian late twentieth century lacquer box, 6" by 4" by 1 5/8" high, with signature (I believe) in Russian, and also a title, in Russian, at lower left. It is a great image, with mounted medieval horseman, an orthodox church in the distance, and a figure like Old Man Winter blowing at the horseman. Colors are delicate and pleasing. I have been using this as a trinket holder on my night table...

John Gannam was an illustrator and painter who worked almost exclusively in watercolor.
Gannam was born in the country of Lebanon and grew up in Chicago. He was forced to leave school and work at age 14 due to his father’s death. He went through a succession of menial jobs until he eventually became a messenger boy in an engraving house. Here, he first found a purpose for himself to become an artist like the men who did the layouts, lettering, and drawings from engravings...

He is well known for his paintings of landscape, birds and flowers...

Contemporary Australian aboriginal art "dot" painting, acrylic on a thin canvas, signed on the reverse by artist POLLY PUNTJUNTA, and stamped with the Original Aboriginal Art Company stamp, of Adelaide, South Australia. The work measures 15" by 26 1/2" (23" by 34" in a wood frame with scratches). The past framer elected to place the reverse wire so as to hang this vertically, though I do not believe there is any particular reason to have done so. The work might be more logically horizontal...

An unframed miniature painting featuring amazingly detailed ink and watercolor scenes of 17th or 18th Venice, the sheet 10" by 8", signed at bottom margin by listed French illustrator artist JEAN GRADASSI (1907-1989). Condition is excellent. Many hours of work went into creating this work, which approaches medieval manuscripts and book of hours paintings in its detail...
Watercolor and ink drawing of the Seine in Paris by Notre Dame, 7" by 8 3/4" (13" by 15" framed), signed at lower left in pencil "Leprin". This COULD be a work by well listed artist MARCEL LEPRIN (1891-1933). I hesitate to state unequivocally that it is, as the long hand signature differs from the commonly seen all-capital letters version...
