A work signed at lower right, of the noted Bermudian artist ALFRED BIRDSEY (1912-1996), the full sheet measuring 19 1/2" by 24" (26 1/2" by 31 1/2" framed behind glass). Birdsey was a familiar figure in Bermuda for decades, a prolific artist, the works of whom traveled home with tourists to the island. This would account for the wide distribution of his distinctive work. Today his daughter continues the family tradition, with similar looking paintings being sold to visitors...

Watercolor on paper painting of a mid nineteenth century American house, 9 1/2" by 6 1/2" (17" by 13" framed), signed at lower right "Barney Moore" and dated there 1941. I do not see information on the artist but he was obviously talented. The house is of an architectural style that would have been common in the 1860's or 1870's, in many American neighborhoods east of the MIssissippi. Condition is excellent. Someone wrote "Moore 1946" on the reverse paper.

For the aficionado of equine art, this is a beautifully composed watercolor and ink drawing of polo horses and players, signed at lower right by listed Arizona woman artist ALICE LORD MARSHALL (1895-1993). The work measures 11 1/2" by 15 1/2" inside the mat and 18 1/2" by 23" as framed. I recently acquired this from her grandson, formerly of the Phoenix area, now living in Pacific Palisades, California...

An old watercolor painting of the famous Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Germany, unsigned, circa 1940. The piece measures 9 1/4" by 7 1/2" inside the double mat and 14 1/4" by 11 1/2" as framed. The frame is modern and functional. Note the detail, including tiny figures and old cars and even double-decker buses. The gate, which dates to the 1730's, was severely damaged in World War II. I believe the artist may have created this during the war or just before it...

Watercolor on paper drawing, 15 1/2" by 21 1/2" (18 3/4" by 24 3/4" framed), the subject an ancient stone monastery perched on a dramatic cliffside with high coastal mountains in the distance at right. My research online has led me to conclude that this scene is of a monastery at Mount Athos, the holy peninsula in northern Greece which is the home of numerous famous monasteries, open just to males. Circa late 19th century watercolor painting, probably American, 9 1/2" by 13" (16" by 19 1/4" framed), unsigned, featuring distant high snowy peaks behind a foreground lake. This was found in California and could be a scene of the American west. More than likely, it is by a listed artist---who neglected to sign his or her work. There is some edge browning from the mat, otherwise the work is in excellent condition considering its obvious age.
