Unsigned watercolor landscape painting, late 19th century American origin, the subject a chilly shoreline including snow-covered shacks, two figures, and a small overturned boat in winter storage, measuring 11" by 21" inside the mat (16" by 25" as framed). This is a primitive work, the figures a bit small and out of scale, and therefore a charming work, rather typical of late nineteenth century American watercolor by self-taught artists. Old circa 1940's chalk portrait drawing of a young woman with red hair and striking light eyes, 22" by 16" (27" by 20 1/2" framed in green metal strip frame), apparently unsigned. This is one of several drawings I encountered by (I believe) the same artist. Two other drawings were signed, but illegibly, so the identity of the artist is a mystery. I think the paper might have been rolled at one time as under certain raking light conditions one can see soft horizontal, roughly parallel creases...

Original drawing/sketch created on the first page of the book "Andre Brasilier Lithographe" by Andre Brasilier (France, born 1929). This work is accompanied by an inscription that reads "Pour Samantha Finney en hommage bien amical" followed by the signature of the artist.

Original floral still life on canvas by Blasco Mentor (Spain, France, 1919-2003), dating probably from the sixties. Signed "Mentor" l.r. In excellent original condition and with original gallery frame. 16" by 13" canvas alone, 23" by 20" in its frame. Blasco Mentor was a well-known member of the "Ecole de Paris". His works are in the collection of the Musee d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris.

From our Fine Arts and Americana Collection, an original oil on canvas by artist David Schluss entitled "Falling in Love." Though we need to confirm this with Schluss's publisher, we believe that "Falling in Love" was never made into any giclees, serigraphs, or prints of any kind, and thus it's quite possible that this original is the only image of this particular work in existence. We invite Schluss devotees worldwide to inform us if they have ever seen this image before...

This is a very finely executed watercolor on paper of a young woman in the clothing of the old country. I've opened this up and see that the work is on paper laid on a board, and it is not signed. The measurements inside the gold mat are 9 1/4" by 7 1/4" (17" by 13" in ornate old frame). I am sure, given the quality of the work (note the care lavished on the eyes and face, in particular), that the artist would be someone recognized and listed...

A lovely antique watercolor painting featuring a path at the edge of a wooded landscape, a young girl at right picking lupine. The 16" by 23 1/2" work (23 1/2" by 31 1/4" framed) is signed at lower left and dated there 1910 by listed artist RALPH W. BARDILL (1876-1935). Bardill was known for his rural watercolor scenes, with autumn and winter forests, quaint villages and coastal scenes common subject matter. This work is in excellent condition...

Watercolor painting of a young ballerina-like ice skater on a frozen pond, 9" by 12 1/2" (17 1/4" by 20 1/4" framed), signed in red at lower left by gallery artist Craig Smith. There seems to be little internet information on the artist, though another work in my shop by him, an oil, comes with a business card showing that he exhibited at a Carmel, California gallery in the mid 1980's. The present work seems to pre-date that by a number of years----perhaps circa 1950's or 1960's...

An original watercolor drawing of a familiar California theme: surfers at the beach, with lifeguard tower, palms, and two parked classic late 1940's Woodies vehicles. The work is signed at lower left "Dry......" ("Drysbock", or similar?) and measures 4 1/2" by 6 1/2". It comes matted but with no frame and glass. Likely is a contemporary work. Looks like a print but guaranteed to be original work.
