A fine miniature painting of a handsome young man attired in a dark blue jacket with black velvet lapels, a white stock and gray vest. Signed lower right "J.T." for John Turmeau. The miniature is in a gilt metal case, the elaborate reverse of which has a lock of hair with a faux pearl circlet and a cobalt glass shield, the whole displayed on a worked foil background, all under glass.

The condition of the miniature is quite good, with some craquelure showing on the jacket...

A well-painted and colourful oil painting on board by Frank E. Cavell (Canada, 1909-80, AOCA (Associate of the Ontario College of Art)). The scene is titled (on the gallery label on the back) "Routley's Mill Bruce County", it has an image size of 19-1/2 x 15-1/2". It is signed on the bottom/lower left. It is in a vintage 1950s gilt wood and gesso 26" x 22" frame...

This is a most interesting assemblage, of ceramic, paint, photographs and other materials, 16" by 24", unframed, signed at lower right and in two places on the stretcher and dated 2005 by the noted Belgium-born, California contemporary artist SIMONE GAD (1947-2021). Gad attended Los Angeles colleges in the mid 1960's and by the early 1970's was already becoming an active exhibitor in galleries and other art venues...

Catalog reference: Gaunt 245. Edition of 54. Pencil signed in the lower right. Sir Frank Brangwyn was one of the most important British artists of the early 20th century. A member of the Royal Academy, the Royal Watercolor Society, and the Royal Society of British Artists, he was knighted in 1924.

Lithograph on paper, the image visually striking, of three zebras with their stripes, the sheet 18" by 22" (24 1/2" by 33" framed in quality black wood frame with linen liner and inner fillet), signed lower right and numbered 44/200 at lower left by the important Swiss modern artist HANS ERNI (1909-2015). The artist, deceased in 2015 at the impressive age of 106, had a long and distinguished career as painter, sculptor, and designer...

This is one of three research notes that were numbered 23. This one is about Work 73-2, a Maki homage to a 19th-century Chinese writer. Dan Tretiak wrote: Enigma. The original eBay seller wrote this in his listing. He really got it right. Maki’s print has the four-character phrase as done by Deng in his writing in the 19th century We confirm Deng and Maki were in sync. The arrangement of Maki’s gold seal is more used in Chinese than Japanese. In any case ENJOY

A watercolor on artist paper depicting from street level through leaves and trees soaring buildings behind a high wall with a 19th century brownstone to one side. I can’t identify the place, though the brownstone is vaguely similar to the Villard Houses. James Penney (American 1910-1982) was a painter in oils, watercolor and a muralist with numerous exhibition records and works in museums and public buildings. He also taught art. He attended the Art Students League in New York in the 1930’s...

During the 1970s, Haku Maki liked occasionally to do haniwa, depictions of terracotta figures that were funerary objects used during the 3rd to 6th centuries in Japan. This one—71-2—is a face rather than a complete figure. Created in 1971, the print is 50 of an edition of 151. It measures 5.75in x 8.5in. The print is in very good condition, with faint tape residue on the two top corners of the back, with no impact on the face.

PAIR of oils on beveled edge thick wood pine panel, each 11 3/4" by 6 1/4" (and 1 7/8" wide silvery modern era frames), each signed at lower right in flowing script "MORA", not dated but likely circa 1880's to 1890's. There are a number of artists listed with this name but so far I can't definitively attribute these to one of them...

Crayon drawing on paper of village rooftops in a European mountain setting, 8 3/4" by 11 3/8" inside the mat, 14 1/2" by 17" in simple strip frame (not pictured), unsigned. The artist was talented but unfortunately remains anonymous. There are a few scribbles on the reverse side of the paper (see last image). The work dates to the first half of the twentieth century. It is in good condition, consistent with its age; some paper toning and very slight ripple.
