The rarer Katsinas of the some of the Rio Grande Pueblos are stylistically similar to Hopi figures, though often made of pine wood. Hopi Katsinas are made of cottonwood and more simply painted. This doll has great provenance: Dorothy Louise Luhrs, PhD. She taught at UNM School of Field Research. She was born in 1910 and she died in 1972. Being offered is an exceptional and rare pair of circa 1955 sterling silver candlesticks by William Spratling, of Taxco, Mexico. Vase from the "Finlandia" series by Timo Sarpaneva for Iittala, Finland, 1965-69. Of tree trunk shape, the glass a very light green, watery shade.The irregular surface was created by the charred wooden moulds used for the Finlandia collection. The vase still retains its Iittala label and the polished base is signed Timo Sarpaneva 7362. Height "6/15 cm, diameter "4/ 10,2 cm. Condition: a few nicks to the sharply cut rim (cf. at 10 and 2 o’clock on pic.5)

Japanese glass ojime in a form of tombodama bead with four white petaled flowers with multicolored stamens, leaves and fine tiny silver foil inclusions. Tombodama can be translated as “dragonfly ball” and the name is thought to come about because when the molten glass is applied to the core bead it resembles a dragonfly’s eye. Superbly made piece - see the individual stamens and finely textured petals, in perfect condition. Height 0.8 inches.

This carved ivory okimono of Daikoku is a mid 20th century product. It depicts a smiling Daikoku holding a mallet (Japanese called Uchide no Kozuchi) or a lucky hammer over his head in his left hand. In his right hand, he holds a cloth bag of rice. Daikoku is one of seven gods or immortals in Japanese culture. He represents wealth and fortune. It is 5 ¼” high, 2 ¼” wide and 1 ½” thick.
