A terrific pair of Art Deco sterling silver tension-hinged sugar tongs or “nips” by W. & S. Sorensen. The twisted upper handles are decorated with gilt crown-shaped finials and the tong ends repeat the twisted pattern of the upper handles. The tongs could be used for sugar cubes, candies, or even olives. Hallmarked by Sorensen. The tongs are very well made and are quite heavy.

Origin: Denmark, ca. 1930. Condition: excellent, all original, traces of original gilding intact...

Rare blue tile and brass footed pitcher of Mayan figure design by Salvador Teran, Mexico, c.1955. Handwrought and very heavy weight, the brass pitcher has a band of blue tiles going down the handle and around the center of the body with 6 brass Mayan figures. Measures 7" high by 5 1/4" diameter and is signed "HANDWROUGHT SALVADOR HECHO EN MEXICO 433". A large sterling silver bowl from Atelier Borgila, Erik Fleming in Stockholm, Sweden. This was a 1941 Presentation Gift from General Motors Imports, inscription on bottom as shown. Measures about 5 1/2" tall, 7 1/2" across and weighs about 737 grams. Has decorative engraving on one side and a gold wash in the interior. Very good condition, does show a little wear and light scratches. In its original presentation box. Fine example of Scandinavian design from this workshop.

Spratling designed this extraordinary pair of sterling wall sconces in the 1950's. Hand forged in sterling silver, each sconce measures 7 1/4" high X 7 1/4" across. Total weight of the pair is 300 grams. The sunburst composition is reminiscent of the sterling silver necklace Spratling designed for cosmetic entrepreneur & philanthropist Helena Rubenstein in the 1940's. A handsome mid-century sterling silver gavel-style double jigger with a turned ebony handle. Gavel jiggers are usually in a more traditional style, but the plain lines of the silver and relatively simple handle give this example a nice mid-century modernist feel. The jigger is marked by Boardman, a silversmith who sold under their own mark and also manufactured barware for Cartier's New York store.

The front side is enameled with the emblem of the Chicago Fire Department surrounded with the words “Little Giant Engine Co. 1871”. The back side is modeled to show the leather handle.
