Typically, the decoration relies heavily on the techniques of contemporary ink painters with attention to naturalistic detail and various wet brush effects. Japanese green studio crackle ware vase with applied silver floral motifs. With tomobako. The foot is signed Shofu Katei (1870-1928). Small wear losses.

Shofu Katei was born in 1870 in Seto, Japan. He later moved to Kyoto where has was adopted into the prestigious Shofu family kiln to create Japanese ceramics. In 1908, he set up the Shofu Ceramics Company, Ltd. and was awarded a Green Ribbon in 1915.

A faïence vase by Cantagalli with silverluster and blue decoration in the Hispano-Moresque or Ottoman style, c 1880-90. Ulysse Cantagalli, Florence, drew his inspiration from Arts and Crafts designers like William de Morgan, from Italian Renaissance and Islamic ceramics. Marked with the singing cockerel of the Cantagalli factory. Height "4 ¾ / 13 cm. Condition: mouth rim with two minimal glaze flakes, and a glaze burst near the foot rim (cf. pics).

The solid form with peg himotôshi carved in sunken relief with a Karako holding a fan on his left hand and carrying on his right hand a tree branch divided into four sections that hold objects that depict the four working classes of Japan: Farmer, Merchant, Craftsman, and Samurai, as well as inlaid tortoise shell and coral beads. Late Qing Dynasty (1880s to 1911) Chinese bronze incense burner in a shape of a standing mandarin duck with its head raised. Wings and tail are decorated in champleve technique with red, green, blue, turquoise and yellow enamels with designs referring to ancient Chinese bronzes. A very nice 19th C, Tongzhi era (1861-1875), porcelain dish showing a Qilin, a fabulous creature which appears in various forms and is associated with the wish for sons. In excellent condition, it measures 6.5 inches in diameter and about 1" high.

A very large Imari charger with a painted dragon in the center chasing the elusive flaming pearl. The panels have various paintings of dancers and country scenes. It is unusual to see dragons in Japanese Imari plates. The back has been wired for hanging. Size: Diameter. 45.3cm. Condition: Perfect.

A rare set of three Deshima (Scheveningen) small bowls of lobed lotus petal form, two of which have all the elements of the traditional Deshima pattern, cups in this pattern appear to be exceptionally rare in the literature compared with flat wares, and one with a Chinese interpretation of the scene, where the figures and landscape are transposed into Chinese Immortals and a traditional Chinese style landscape, examples of which appear in the Burghley Collection etc...

An unusual bone handle dagger decorated with a turquoise stone and silver a copper fittings. The sheath is made of silver with a woven silver chain attached to the knife. There is piece of "stingray skin" wrapped around the middle. There is one turquoise stone decorating the sheath with two red (resin) stones that originally were red coral.The blade is made of steel. Antique true linen homespun table mat in a deep indigo blue and a natural unbleached white. The mat is 12" square and has just the slightest age discoloration in one corner, see photos. This is a wonderful very early example. Circa 1830

Hand made Shaker table mat with multi colored field and a wide brown border. The mats were the product of left over scraps from the sewing rooms in Shaker communities. This mat is 13" by 15" and is in excellent condition. C. 1900

Antique Tibetan gilt bronze statue of a wrathful male and female deity in tantric Yabyum pose. The pair stands on six Naga or snakes atop a gilt bronze lotus pedestal, with copper bottom impressed by a four prong vajra. Dates from the 19th century.

19th century Chinese bamboo brushpot carved in the round with a continuous scene of Chinese scholars and peasants by rice bales under pine trees with gnarled branches, all in a setting of mountains, stream and clouds. Seven human figures, each in a distinct attitude, excellent quality carving - see the faces, robes, rocks, clusters of pine needles and textures of tree trunks. Excellent patina, compressed dust in crevices. Superb piece in scholarly taste. Height 5 3/8 inches, width 3 5/8.

19th century Chinese scholar’s root wood brush rest / scholar’s rock giving a perfect impression of a craggy mountain range with numerous crevices. Did not photograph well - photos came out too harsh. Wonderful object conveying the power of the mountains. Natural root of a tree with old cracks, nicks and scratches adding to the wild energy of the piece. Beautiful patina, powerful piece for a scholar’s table. Length 5 1/4 inches, height 2 1/4 inches.

Chinese jade seal with a serpentine chimera coiled around the top. The chimera body is finely and continuously carved with the beast's horns are carved connected to its back and its tail curls around to connect with its front leg. Dates from the Ming dynasty.

Japanese okimono boxwood carving of Ashinaga and Tenaga. Old Japanese folklore tells that Tenaga (with his very long arms) would climb onto the back of Ashinaga (with his very long legs) and would work to catch fish together. Dates from Taisho Period c1920.

Chinese clear quartz crystal container, hand-carved in the form of a blossoming lotus. The container has a tall bud finial lid carved with lotus pods. The crystal is carved smooth with natural inclusions.

This is a rare and attractive example of Japanese Golden Age Cloisonne. The colors are bright and the design is very desirable. It is a unique piece that was probably made in the mid 1890's. The tray is heavy and measures 12 3/4 inches by 8 inches. All in all condition is very good and it displays wonderfully. If you look close, there is a short craze and slight bend in the outer rim (see image). There is some roughness on the bottom is from the firing process.

A very rare caneware basketweave tureen with a lid featuring 3 little biddies hatching from their eggs by William Schiller and Sons. A very rare caneware tureen in the form of a cabbage with a mother rabbit and 3 bunnies peeking out of the lid. The cabbage with tureen rests on a matching plate. In very good antique condition, this item was actually used in its earlier days. Worth noting is that all the color in the rabbits eyes is still intact. This pointed bone splitter tool from the Bill Peterson Collection and ex-Jim Bennett is 5" L, including a 2" glued piece. It was found in Kentucky and shows incredible patina. It has a drilled hole for suspension. It is just a really neat bone tool in unusual form. It has been preserved with an Elmer's glue mix which many old collections used. I will hate to see this one go.

18th century Chinese bronze sculpture of a running boy holding a Precious Gem in his raised hand. Unusual image, wonderful casting and detailing - see his smiling face and knots of his robe. Excellent warm patina, 200 years worth of compressed dust on the surface, pleasantly heavy. Fixed to a beautifully carved hardwood stand. Very nice object for scholar’s desk. A hand wrought sterling silver desk set from F. Walter Lawrence, probably in collaboration with Gustav Manz. The desk pad measures about 22" by 15". Silver inkwell box measures about 5 1/2" by 3" by 3 1/4" and weighs over a pound without the glass inkwells. Silver pen tray measures 7 7/8" by 3 1/4". Signed on bottom of pen tray, as shown. Condition is very good, except for chips on the glass inkwells. Fine quality and rare.
