The work has some age, a guess would place this circa 1955 to about 1965. Certainly it is good enough to have been painted by a listed artist. The condition is acceptably good...

An original botanical watercolor drawing of unknown age, apparently unsigned, featuring leaves and insects, one likely a wasp or similar. The work is very clean and ready for the wall. Some slight brownish toning of the paper seems to be accentuated by the camera; it does not appear that way to the naked eye. The attention paid to detail, by the artist, is impressive. The crisp and stylish monochromatic gray/black/white scheme makes this a neutral piece that will fit into a lot of situations...

Watercolors on paper, each 6 1/4" by 4 1/4" inside the mats (11" by 9" overall, unframed), each signed at bottom center with the distinctive signature of California Scene artist JAKE LEE. These paintings appear to be studies of spring flowers like jonquils and perhaps asters. Jake Lee's works are increasingly sought after by collectors in the wake of his relatively recent passing. These works are clean examples in excellent condition. They should likely receive clean new mats before framing...

Original watercolor/gouache on paper by Hans Kleiss (1901-1973) depicting a veiled woman from Morocco, circa 1940-1950. In beautiful condition. Signed l.l. 16cm by 13cm. Hans Kleiss was an Orientalist/ Africanist painter, illustrator, and caricaturist. He was the husband of Orientalist painter Yvonne Kleiss-Herzig. They both lived for long periods in North Africa (Morocco and Algeria). They settled together in Sidi Slimane (Morocco) in the early fifties before returning to France...

Original drawing in sanguine pencil and watercolor, 16" by 11 1/2" (25 1/2" by 18" framed), the subject traditional shoes, a ceramic pot, and textile, signed at lower right by Hopi artist S. POLELONEMA. This would have been created in the Four Corners region, the name being somewhat common among the peoples of the area in Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico particularly. An Otis Polelonema is a well known Native American artist, though I don't know if the present artist might be a relative...

Watercolor on paper, 10 1/4" by 14" inside the present mat, and 3 1/2" of frame and mat, signed at lower right "G. MORELL" (or, MORELLY or MORELLI), showing a Southwest Hopi style native American pot against a striped background. This is an original watercolor, and NOT A PRINT! I do not see a listing for this obviously talented artist, but this is a very decorative work that will grace any home or office seeking a Southwest theme. Condition is excellent with fresh colors and no damage.

A good-sized watercolor (30 1/2" by 22 1/2", and 37 1/2" by 29 1/2" in present framing without glass), the subject New Mexico adobes in a late autumn landscape, the trees in flaming yellows, backed by surrounding mountains. In the foreground is a small body of water providing a deep blue color to set off the yellow. The work is signed at lower left "J. Van Sant". PAIR of gouache paintings on paper, unframed, each 19 3/4" by 25 1/2", both signed by listed French mid century artist GERARD CABUS (born 1926). One appears to be dated 1967. Cabus was very active in the late 1950's through the 1960's, producing abstract compositions and other works in oil and watercolor. His biography is scant, but it does appear that major Paris galleries in the early 1960's gave him one man exhibitions, and some works have appeared at auction in France. These drawings are...

An oil on canvasboard painting of the California desert, painted in unusually pastel-y color palette, signed at lower left by artist Alzira Maria. The piece, 22" by 28" (28" by 34" framed) features an almost Cubist handling in the distant mountains, reminding of artists such as Andrew Dasburg. The painting is clean and wall-ready. Frame is attractive distressed wood style, and liner and gold fillet are in good condition.

**ONE OF TWO WORKS BY THIS ARTIST IN MY SHOP** This is a mixed media work on paper, (watercolor and gouache) 8 1/2" by 12", 16" by 19 1/2" as framed, signed at lower right in pencil by the artist "J Cl Imbert". The landscape scene includes a few trees and a small river rendered in subdued colors. Thee primary medium is watercolor but there are tiny spots of gouache, and possibly charcoal in the tree branches, and scratching technique. No foxing or damage.

An unframed miniature painting featuring amazingly detailed ink and watercolor scenes of 17th or 18th Venice, the sheet 10" by 8", signed at bottom margin by listed French illustrator artist JEAN GRADASSI (1907-1989). Condition is excellent. Many hours of work went into creating this work, which approaches medieval manuscripts and book of hours paintings in its detail. "Jean Gradassi" is written on the reverse; without that aid I might not have been able to identify the artist from the signatu...

This is another of Haku Maki’s depictions of the kanji天 for day, heaven, sky. It’s a fairly easy character to make stark and lovely. The next year, 1971, he did another black-and-white dramatic rendering of the same kanji (Poem 71-51, which is below at #1452042 (stock #1077). The print is 12in square and in excellent condition.
