This is a relatively earlier (1976 or before) work of the noted Bermudian artist ALFRED BIRDSEY (1912-1996). Birdsey was a familiar figure in Bermuda for decades, a prolific artist, the works of whom traveled with tourists when they returned from holidays. This would account for the wide distribution of his distinctive work. Today his daughter continues the family tradition, with similar looking paintings being sold to visitors. Birdsey worked in gouache or possibly oil or acrylic on paper...

Circa 1880's painting in oil on a 14" diameter papier mache style plate, unsigned, featuring a winter scene at dusk. This charming antique work by an anonymous artist has nice detail and light. The artist was not professional but certainly had some training and a good eye for color and composition. The work has acquired some small losses, showing as white spots in the imagery, and along the rim. See old original label on reverse with 1880 patent date. Found in coastal New Jersey.

Large 1980's screenprint poster, titled "Dakota", the subject a young woman, after a painting by famous twentieth century artist Patrick Nagel (1945-1984). A very decorative piece for your mid-century or modern interior. Nagel's original authenticated works have exceeded $50,000 at auctions. His paintings and prints featuring glamorous, attractive young women with heavy makeup have virtually become pop culture symbols of the 1980's...

A circa 1840 engraving of the famous column in the Place Vendome, central Paris, titled "Colonne de la Place Vendome", with "Rouargue freres del & sc" at lower left. The print measures 6 3/4" by 4 1/4" inside the mat and the work as framed measures 11 1/4" by 8 3/4". There are two Rouargue brothers; one, Adolphe (1810-c.1870) and Emile (c.1795-1865)...

Oil on canvas painting of a landscape with trees, a lake and distant mountains, 11 3/4" by 15 3/4", unframed, signed at lower right "Ballon". The work is nicely painted and possibly of French origin. The age would be about circa 1960's/1970's. A standard 12" by 16" frame will make this wall-ready. The condition is excellent.

Contemporary watercolor painting of whitish or pinkish roses, executed in a soft-focus manner, signed at lower right by artist Jean Percival. I do not see a listing by this name but we're looking at a talented artist. The work measures 13 1/2" by 9 1/2" inside the double mat opening and 21" by 17 1/2" framed. Silvery frame exhibits light wear. There are reflections in some images.

Watercolor painting of a lake and scenic mountains, 6" by 8 1/2" (10" by 12" in simple framing with no mat), apparently unsigned, circa mid 19th century, likely English. The gentleman from whom I purchased this makes regular trips to England and brings back drawings and paintings which he sells, so, that is why I am fairly confident that this is indeed English. The work needs a mat at least although frame could be retained...

A fine old etching of a windmill in a low country landscape, signed in pencil and in the plate with a signature that appears to be "J Harvey" or similar. The work is numbered 23/25 at lower right margin. The name being common, there are a number of listed artists that might correspond to this. The numbering suggests a 20th century origin, numbered prints being far less common in the 19th century...

An original panoramic photograph of San Francisco, circa 1950, the view appearing to be south and west from the Coit Tower at the top of Telegraph Hill. The photo is laid to a card. Measurements are 9 1/2" by 7" inside the existing mat and 16" by 13" in blond wood strip frame. The photo has come loose inside the frame. You might take the opportunity to re-frame with acid-free materials. An old Kearny Street, San Francisco framer's label remains on the backing...

ONE OF TWO DRAWINGS BY THE ARTIST IN MY SHOP---A pencil drawing of the Hell Gate railroad bridge in New York City, (so identified after research conducted on the internet), 8 7/8" by 6 3/4" (14 1/2" by 11 1/2" framed, no glass, loose in black metal frame), signed with initials "JRM" at lower left and dated there 1943. On the reverse a previous owner wrote "JOHN RICHARD MOORE 1925-2009 University High Sch arts class Co Founder Panavision Co.". This early work would date to the artist's teens...

A contemporary painting of figures, the principal subject staring into a cooking pot, the others seated in the background, signed at lower left and again on the reverse, where it is dated 2005. The work is mixed media (gouache and perhaps some thinned oil) on card, and measures 10 1/2" by 7 1/4" (24" by 18 1/2" in an interesting burl laminate frame). The artist is from Zimbabwe in southern Africa: MUNYARADZI MAZARIRE (born 1981)...

A small very nicely painted contemporary work in watercolor and gouache, the subject water's edge with tidal rocks and sand. Measuring 10 1/2" by 12 3/4" framed and nicely matted, the work is signed at lower left corner by artist "Greenaway". The framing sticker on the reverse from San Luis Obispo suggests the possibility that the scene is somewhere on the central California coast.

Watercolor on paper painting, 10 1/2" by 13 1/2" (18 1/4" by 21" framed), signed at lower right "J.C. MIDDLETON.", the subject a suburban boathouse in a neighborhood, possibly in southeast England. Middleton painted in oil and watercolor in Surrey, greater London, and Cornwall, as well as South Africa, apparently, as a number of works from Cape Town are known. The artist was skilled in watercolor, as this painting shows a sure hand.
