Oil on canvasboard painting of Paris Montmartre section, the dome of famous Sacre Coeur looming white in the distance above the rooftops, signed lower left "Michel" and dated there 1960. The work measures 24" by 18" (27" by 21" in simple white wood framing). The piece has beautiful depth and a balanced satisfying palette of colors. Condition is excellent.
Photo print, 22 3/4" by 19 1/8" inside the mat (31" by 27" as framed), pencil signed at lower right by the noted artist of the American West JOE BEELER (1931-2006), and numbered at lower left 58/300. The subject is a monument to the American West: a cowboy on his horse, a butte in the background as he pursues stray cattle with his lasso on a spring or late winter day. This is a clean print and is ready for the wall...
An unframed oil on canvas landscape, 12 3/4" by 16", the subject a large lake in high country, a distant mountain in the background and tall spruce-type trees at left along the rocky shore. I have searched diligently for a signature and cannot find one, which is frustrating, as the work is certainly good enough to have been executed by a listed artist. The canvas was laid down on a board circa 1940 or so judging from the "Brownie Board" age...
In the style of popular Thomas Kinkade or Marty Bell, this is an original oil on canvas, 11" by 14" (17" by 20" framed), the subject a cozy cottage-like house set in a flowering garden, the welcoming lights all on. The painting is signed at lower left "N LaFond". If you enjoy the Kinkade style but would like an original work instead of a print, you may well like this piece. Condition is excellent, frame has a little wear.
Acquired as one of a number of works by late Bozeman, Montana artist MARION "MAL" LEWIS (1925-2010), this is a fine collage work, undated, titled "Silhouette Collage" on original accompanying sticker, not framed (just matted), likely from late in the artist's life. While traveling through Montana I came upon a group of mostly collage, abstract works by this artist, though there is at least one non-abstract work, a New Mexico drawing, that I will be listing...
"William Hogarth" Moses brought to Pharaoh's Daughter The Works of William Hogarth" as published by Baldwin, Cradock and Joy in 1822 with the original plates restored by James Heath, engraver to His Majesty. The Heath edition was the last to print directly from Hogarth's original engraved plates. All William Hogarth prints appearing after this date are copies of these original graphic works of art. Heath edition 1822 An original copperplate engraving — over 195 years old. Sheet size: approx...
Original etching on paper watermarked "France" (probably Arches paper), 9 3/4" by 7 7/8" (image only), and the sheet with at least 1 1/8" margins (up to nearly 2" at right), pencil signed at lower right by the noted American printmaker LUIGI LUCIONI (1900-1988). This is no doubt a Vermont landscape scene, as Lucioni's prints largely deal with the classic mountain scenery of that state...
Oil on canvas of a square in Paris, larger size at 31 1/2" by 31 1/2", unframed, signed at lower right corner with what appears as "R. Ode". The painting likely dates to about 1960, judging from the clothing of the people in the image. I do not see a listing by this name but am continuing to research. Condition: the painting will need restoration...
A contemporary screenprint, the imagery forming the letters for "LOVE", pencil signed at lower right and numbered 98/100 examples at lower left, by noted British illustrator and commercial artist Helen Lang. The matted print is currently housed in a white laminated wood frame, measuring 24" by 20" in that frame. GLASS IS CRACKED AT LOWER RIGHT so print will be shipped without glass...
Decorative old engraving of early New York, printed in Paris, circa 1850, with quality contemporary framing and hand drawn mat lines. This lovely print is ready to hang in your traditional fine interior. The print is exceptionally clean and fresh as is the mat (photo shows what appears as a scratch in glass at upper left, it was simply foreign matter I removed easily after the photo). The work bears a label of Summa Gallery, Brooklyn Heights, New York. Measurements 12 1/4" by 13 1/4".
A nicely painted oil on panel, 10" by 9 1/2" (15 1/2" by 14 3/4" as framed), the subject a stone wall surrounding an estate, with an entry portal, the word "Robe" at lower right, and "MLM" at left as presumably the signature. On the reverse is an old label from a framer in Mulhouse (eastern France near the Swiss border and Basel), and pencil writing "M Mougot" (or, "Maugot", or "Mangot", as a possible full name of the artist)...
Original watercolor/gouache on paper by Hans Kleiss (1901-1973), depicting a smiling Berber man from Morocco. Circa 1940-1950. Image size: 26cm by 20cm. Signed l.l. Hans Kleiss was an Orientalist/ Africanist painter, illustrator, and caricaturist. He was the husband of Orientalist painter Yvonne Kleiss/Herzig. They both lived for long periods of time in North Africa (Morocco and Algeria). They settled together in Sidi Slimane (Morocco) in the early fifties before returning to France...
A gouache on paper painting of a vase with white flowers, blue on white plates, green bowl with cherries, a decorative leaded window beyond, the work signed at lower right corner with what appears as "Louise Brentnall" and dated there 44 (or, I think less likely, 77). The piece measures 9 1/4" by 7" (12 3/4" by 10 3/4" in simple strip frame). I do not see an artist by this name, if I am reading the name correctly. I thought it might read "Louise Brumback", but that artist died in 1929...
A watercolor painting of outbuildings and scrubby trees, 10" by 15 3/4" (20" by 25" framed), titled at lower right "Near Filkins/March 1934" and signed at lower left by listed English artist ANTHONY LOUSADA. There appears to be little information on the artist, though some works have sold at auction in England...
Watercolor and ink on paper, 7 1/4" by 9 1/4", (13 1/2" by 15 1/2" in gold color metal frame), the subject a blue-striped lighthouse and keeper's home adjacent, signed at base of that lighthouse by California watercolor artist RITCHIE ALLEN BENSON (1941-1996). This is a nicely executed work and it is in excellent, fresh condition with no foxing nor water staining. Benson was born in the Los Angeles area and died in Washington state, but there is limited biographical information on him. He appar...
Old oil on canvas painting of light violet colored flowers in a yellow ceramic vessel, 13 1/2" by 17" (16 1/2" by 20" framed), signed at lower right corner with what appears as "M. Lagenbrucke" or similar, and dated adjacent 1924. I have looked for an artist by this name and to date have not found any information. He/she was talented and created an attractive work. In its nearly 100 years it has acquired considerable grime, and the surface is uneven and bearing hairline cracks in certain area...
Poignant early handmade drawing of pink and white flowers (lilies of the valley and?) painted in gouache within an oval set off by golden mat, the words "BIRTHDAY GREETINGS FROM YOUR LOVING DAUGHTER ALICE" around the central image. The oval measures 4 3/4" by 6 3/4" and the entire work as framed 11 3/4" by 14 1/4". This is a work from another time, when people were less likely or less able to go to a store to buy a gift. Such a gift is the best of all gifts and the most heartfelt. The little...
