For the natural history aficionado or decorator, a PAIR of original finely detailed drawings in watercolor and ink, one titled faintly in pencil "Scorpions", the other featuring other unidentified but quite exotic-looking creatures with many legs. Each drawing is 8 1/4" by 6 1/2" inside the mat, and the works are identically framed (13" by 11")...

Koitsu Tsuchiya, oban tate-e, ¡°Sunset at Mt. Futara¡±, slightly toned and creased, fine impression and color.

Oil on canvas, 30" by 25" and 1 1/4" wide frame, unsigned, the subject two ladies and a cradled baby, in a traditional European interior of the nineteenth century. Due to the stretcher and canvas weave, I believe this is actually a work by an American artist, who skillfully copied a master work from Europe (probably Italian, or, Tyrol area/South German?)...

Oil on masonite, circa late 1940's or early 1950's, 16 1/2" by 23 1/2" (22" by 31 1/2" as framed), signed at lower left by Pittsburgh artist PERRY DAVIS. This is a beautifully painted work by an obviously talented artist, although I have not to date found a listing on him. There's a label on the reverse of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, 37th Annual Exhibition with the title, and artist's address. The painting has a strong WPA feeling to it...

William Lee Hankey, British, 1869-1952, "Evening," etching, image size 9 x 9 7/8 inches on 10 7/8 x 11 7/8 wove-type paper C 1919. Pencil signed. Artist blindstamp, plate initialed in the lower right.

Sir Francis Seymour Haden, British, 1818-1910, "Shere Mill Pond No. II". This is a very fine early state etching, image size 7 x 13 1/8 inches, 1860, state VI/IX, cat: Schneiderman-37, plate signed and dated. Sir Francis Seymour Haden was one of the most important British etchers of the 19th century, along with his brother in law, James Whistler. In addition to being a highly regarded artist, he was a successful surgeon, accomplished author and dedicated angler...

Utagawa Yoshitsuya, Japanese, 1822-1866, "Senjubo Aiming at Harunaga-Ko". This is a an original color woodblock print by Utagawa Yoshitsuya from his series '54 Battle Stories of Hideyoshi". The image size is 12 7/8 x 8 7/8 inches, 1864, lifetime impression, framed. Hideyoshi was a 16th century Samurai warrior in the who rose through the ranks of the army to become general, leading the forces of Japan in several brutal conflicts...

A rare, finely crafted woodblock print in the Arts and Crafts style of the early 20th century, titled at lower left "Marigold", by German artist ILSE KOCH-AMBERG (1869-1934), measuring 6 1/2" by 6 1/2" in side the mat and 12 1/2" by 12" framed. The work features her monogram in the image, and is signed in pencil by the artist at lower right; in addition, the paper features a blind stamp including the word "Berlin" at lower left margin...

Nicolas Mignard, French, 1606-1668, "Odysseus and Hermes Before Circe". Etching by Nicolas Mignard after the frescoes of Annibale Carracci depicting scenes from Homer's Odyssey. Plate size 10 1/4 x 17 3/4, published by Pierre Mariette in 1637, with lettering in Latin below the image. Printed on a very early watermarked laid type paper.

Charles Mielatz, American, 1864-1919, Etching, "Pond with Rowboat", 1889, image size: 7 1/4 x 12 5/8 inches, pencil signed

Johannes Wierix, Flemish, 1549-1618, "The Betrayal of Christ, Agony in the Garden". This is a rare early engraving by Johannes Wierix after Pieter van der Borcht, printed with an image on both sides of the sheet. Each image measures 4 1/2 x 2 7/ 8 inches, 1583, a good impression on a very early laid type paper, published by 16th century book printer and publisher Christophe Plantin. One side of the sheet shows the 'Betrayal of Christ', the other 'Agony in the Garden'.

Diana Thorne, American, b. 1895, "Russians". An energetic image of a young woman walking her two Russian wolfhounds, this etching measures 5 7/8 x 7 7/8 inches, c. 1930, pencil signed below the image, titled on the lower margin. Diana Thorne was a well known early 20th century artist and illustrator, known especially for her etchings of dogs and illustrations of numerous children's books.

Arthur Heintzelman, American, 1891-1965, etching, "Cafe Montmartrois", BPL 114, plate destroyed, Characters from French art culture of 1925; Scene features Heintzelman, left, bending over table, the Parisian model, Kiki who appears in Planche aux Cinq Croquis. To her right, Fredie, subject in Fredie du Cafe "Le Lapin Agile" and of Le Poete regarded by Heintzelman as the last of the great Montartre singers, Young man with the guitar is Fredie's son.

Very rare hand carved Baroque Church Putto (Cherub), wood with traces of gilding and polychrome paint, made for corner/angle where 2 walls join. Wood shows 2 cracks, toes of right foot are missing because of age, otherwise in good overall condition. Size: H. 12" x W. 9" x D. 8" Unique collector's item!
