Oil on board impressionist oil painting of architecture on dramatic coastal mountains, signed at lower right in red "A. Dickert" and titled there "Camogli". The coastal town renowned for its views is popular with tourists visiting the Liguria coast around Genoa. The work measures 13 1/4" by 10 1/4" (21" by 18" in its original black wood frame). The artist was born in 1878 but there appears to be little biographical information...

An impressively detailed circa 1860's watercolor of Lausanne in western Switzerland, signed at lower right by listed French artist Achille Gratien Gallier (1814-1871). The 150 year old work is in excellent condition, appearing to have been done yesterday. The scene is the Cathedral of Notre Dame (dating to as early as 1170) and nearby buildings, with tiny figures in the foreground, and even their hound dogs playing at lower left...

A finely detailed 1844 watercolor painting of an extensive German landscape, with fascinating details including numerous tiny figures fishing and admiring the river and its cascades, a mountaintop castle, church, and countless trees. The sheet measures 15" by 19", the drawing inside squared lines 11 1/4" by 16 3/4". In the lower margin is a lot of writing, some of it tiny. Nicolas Mignard, French, 1606-1668, "Athena Advises Odysseus". Etching by Nicolas Mignard after the frescoes of Annibale Carracci depicting scenes from Homer's Odyssey. Plate size 11 3/4 x 13 5/8 inches, published by Pierre Mariette in 1637, with lettering in Latin below the image. Printed on a very early watermarked laid type paper.

Gouache and pencil on paper, 16 3/4" by 12 1/2" (slightly larger as simply framed), signed at lower left by listed American artist JOHN EDWIN JACKSON (1876-1950). The scene is a genteel one, with a proper southern gentleman and belle, in a grand architectural setting. The artist was very prolific, illustrating many books and magazines in the first half of the twentieth century, yet, little seems to be known about him. A few pieces have been sold at illustration art auctions...

William Lee Hankey, British, 1869-1952, The Bridge at Corfe Castle," etching, image size 6 1/4 x 8 1/2 inches, pencil signed l.l., plate initialed l.l., artist blindstamp l.r., very rare image, number one of 12 impressions, small repair in the image.

Hermine David, French, 1886-1971, "La Corrida". A great image of a Spanish bull fight, this etching with drypoint measures 10 1/8 x 11 1/2 inches, published in 1929 in an edition of 100, pencil signed and numbered. Hermine David was born and raised in Paris and at the age of 16 was accepted into the Ecole Des Beaux Arts, later going on the study at the Academy Julien...

By well listed HENDRIK GERRIT TEN CATE (1803-1856) is this 9 1/2" by 13" watercolor on paper painting (15" by 19" as framed), laid long ago to a card, the subject a few chickens pecking the soil in front of a ramshackle thatch roofed structure I would think might be a barn or out building, except for the telltale domestic woodsmoke venting from the roof. The painting is actually signed "H.J. ten Kaet" at lower left...

A nice portrait miniature of a handsome young clergyman, posed in front of drapery at his true right side. The painting is in a bronze surround set into a period ebonized wood frame. Excellent condition with a sight size of 3 1/4" by 2 1/2" and a frame size of 7" by 6 1/4".

Original watercolor on paper, 6" by 10" (12" by 16" as framed), signed at lower right "William J. Schaldach, Jr." and inscribed at left "To Nellie, with love, from Billy". This could be an oriole but I am not an ornithologist. This is a very clean work and it appears not to have been opened since the 1960's or 1970's. A few tiny black spots visible in some photos are on the glass and not the art itself...

Oil on canvas painting of high snowy mountains framed by aspen in late autumn, 12" by 16" (17 1/4" by 20 1/2" nicely framed) signed in the wet paint by well listed American artist EDWARD NORTON WARD (1928-). This might well be a scene in northern New Mexico or southern Colorado, but the artist was known to have painted in many locales in the American west, including Montana, Oregon and Alaska. Ward, a native Californian, moved to the Monterey area in the mid 1950's...

Samuel Chamberlain, American, 1895-1975, drypoint etching, "The Verdant Village", image size: 6 1/2 x 11 inches. 1931, edition 75/100, cat. Chamberlain and Kingsland-107, pencil signed, numbered and titled. This scene of Bellefontain, Ile-de-France, exhibits Chamberlain's ability to create subtle gradation in plate tone.

Friedrich (Fritz) Heubner, 1896-1974, German, drypoint etching, "Portrait of a Young Woman ("Madchenkopf"), image size 12 3/4 x 9 5/8 inches, pencil signed

Mortimer Menpes, English, 1860-1938, "Interior of St Maclou, Rouen". This etching by Mortimer Menpes measures 12 3/8 x 6 3/8 inches, pencil signed, c. 1902, edition of 50, looking towards the Gothic Baldachin. Menpes attended the School of Art in London in 1878 and started exhibiting at the Royal Academy in 1880. He became a major figure in the etching revival, producing more than seven hundred different etchings and drypoints, which he usually printed himself.

Colorful poster "Nichols Canyon", after the famous 1980 Hollywood Hills painting by world-renowned British-born artist now associated with Southern California, David Hockney (born 1937). The offset lithograph measures 35 1/2" by 23" inside the white laminate frame. That framing suggests that this is a vintage print and not a later reproduction...
