Original pencil figural drawing, 15" by 9" plus a gray mat, unframed, signed at lower right "K. Delaney" and dated there 1979. I do not know who the artist might have been but he or she certainly had a talent as a draftsperson. The condition is generally good save for modest paper browning and there is tape residue on the reverse from clumsy attachment to the mat. Fit a frame on this and you'll have a pleasant, nicely executed drawing.
Lucien Lévy-Dhurmer Collotype hand signed limited edition 1917 Les mères pendant la guerre sight 9.5" by 13.5" with original matt board
Oil on canvasboard painting of a home and greenery with a high mountain backdrop, signed at lower left faintly "J. F. Gasser" and inscribed on reverse "Original/by Rev. J. F. Gasser/April 1937/La Crescenta Calif". The work measures 12" by 16" (16" by 19 1/2" framed). The artist does not appear to be listed or known but was talented. An early scene in what is today a highly desirable upscale Los Angeles suburb backing up to the scenic Angeles National Forest.
A watercolor painting of tropical hibiscus, signed at lower left by listed California artist MARCIA A. PATRICK (1875-1964). The work measures 16 1/2" by 11 1/2" inside the mat and 22 1/2" by 17 3/4" framed. Patrick was in Los Angeles by 1910. A physician, she is known to have painted florals and landscapes. In 1937 the prestigious Stendahl Gallery held an exhibition of her work. Patrick was active in local art clubs, including Painters and Sculptors of Los Angeles, in 1936-37...
A 19th century or circa 1900 American watercolor of a coast with lighthouse and offshore steamship, 5 3/4" by 9" (13" by 16" in mid 20th century frame), unsigned. The scene could be the Hatteras lighthouse on the North Carolina coast. Nicely done with a charmingly primitive hand. The watercolor was laid down on a cardboard. Condition is excellent...
Kyoto Storefront, undated, purchased from a Kyoto gallery in 1978
Signed and titled in pencil on lower margin, very good color and condition
Paper size: 10 x 13 in.; image size: 7 ¾ x 10 ½ in.
Oil on canvas, 17" by 9" and thin original wood frame, signed lower left "M Stuart", depicting a young woman in greenish gray paint. This is more a work of figural art, really, than mere portrait. The sitter is unknown, as is the artist; there is a listing for a Mimi Stuart (1959-) but I am not convinced this is by that artist. Signature looks as if it could be by a British hand, judging from the style of writing. It is a professional signature, though, and this is not a work by an amateur...
A print I first thought could be Pennsylvania Dutch imagery, but which now appears to be of some European origin, perhaps the Appenzell area of Switzerland, or elsewhere in Europe. A Google search reveals that the imagery is actually used on the cover of a Spanish reader book, so perhaps this is a Spanish origin. Measurements are 17" by 13 1/2" framed. Condition is very good, with just some overall age toning of the paper and some light rumpling at bottom margin...
Small (7 3/4" by 5 1/2" framed) pastel drawing titled on reverse "Sage on the Black Rock", signed at lower left and bearing the business card of contemporary Nevada artist Ruth Wood Cantrell, a member of the Reno Artist Co-operative. The Black Rock of course is best known as the site of the Burning Man festival, held every year in northwestern Nevada in one of the most remote locations in the lower 48 states...
Oil on canvas laid on board painting of a tree in late autumn, the leaves still in their golden glory, haystacks filling the meadow. This work measures 8" by 10" and is unsigned and not framed. On the reverse is written in pencil "Oct 7 - 1939". More than likely this is by a listed artist but his or her identity will remain a mystery. Put a frame around it and this will shine.

A naïve Americana print, "Bears Bears Bears", numbered 1348/1375, signed at lower right by noted highly collected American 20th century folk art artist JANE WOOSTER SCOTT (1920-). Jane Wooster Scott grew up in eastern Pennsylvania and was exposed as a youngster to the vivid Americana atmosphere that remained in the region into the 1940's. She moved west to hopefully become a movie star but ended up remaining in Los Angeles, though she returned to the east for inspiration...
Lithograph Roman Ruin in desert published London 1852
A hand colored lithograph of a group of travelers with camels stopped for a meal break with a ruined omphalos in the distance. This lithograph is from 'Sketches between the Persian Gulf & Black Sea', 24 plates, Dickinson Bros., London 1852. Titled, “ROMAN RUIN IN THE DESERT ON THE WAY TO PALMYRA.” Also l.l. “R.CLIVE, DEL.” and l.r.” DICKINSON AND CO LITH.” Image with border 9 inches (23cm) tall by 13 ¾ inches (35 cm) wide...
A print with some subtle color in the printing process, the subject typical houses along a canal, likely in The Netherlands, signed in pencil at lower right below the image "Van Gelden". On the reverse is a label giving the name of the artist, stating that this is a copper plate proof etching, published in Paris in limited edition. Measurements are 9 1/4" by 11 1/4" inside the mat, 16 1/4" by 18" framed.
This is a watercolor signed at lower right by an unrecognized artist named "Andre" or "Audre", 11 1/2" by 8 1/2" (17 1/2" by 14 1/4" as framed), the subject a young girl in pigtails viewed from behind, playing a grand piano. The overall colors are a cool mix of white, black, silvery gray, and light blue, with pink accenting in her bow. The mat and silvery frame pick up the colors nicely...
Impressionist oil painting of stands of white birch trees by a small lake or large pond, painted on the smooth side of Masonite panel, 9 3/4" by 13 1/2" (12 1/2" by 16" as simply framed), apparently unsigned. The scene suggests a northern latitude, perhaps high elevations in the United States, or Canada or northern Europe, but there is little to go on geography-wise. The artist was skilled and created a peaceful little painting in subdued colors...
Sake Shop, undated, purchased from a Kyoto gallery in 1978
Signed and titled in pencil on lower margin, very good color and condition
Paper size: 10 x 13 in.; image size: 7 ¾ x 10 ½ in.
A watercolor painting of flowers (perhaps, zinnias) in a vase on a tabletop, painted in an impressionist manner, and signed at lower right by artist "Cara dee" or similar. The work measures 18 3/4" by 14 3/4" as framed. All photos taken through detail-dulling non-glare glass. Condition is excellent.
One of 12 lithographs published by Ackermann London, in 1840/41 as part of a portfolio, “12 Views in the Interior of Guiana.” The original sketches were made by John Morrison who accompanied Sir Robert Hermann Schomburgk on the exploration into what would become British Guiana. The sketches were developed by Charles Bentley into the drawings that were the basis for the lithographs...
Oil on canvas painting of an extensive mountain landscape, 16" by 20", unsigned, unframed. This is a decorative work that needs a cleaning and a frame. Note how the extreme upper right edge, which had evidently been hidden under a frame, shows the true colors of the work. A regular size, framing this should not be expensive, and it's possible that a careful cleaning to remove the soiling might not have to be done by a professional.
A vintage etching of Sacre Coeur church in Montmartre district of Paris, circa 1945, pencil signed by the artist at lower right margin and bearing his red stamp at lower left margin. The unframed print measures 17 1/2" by 12 1/4". Paper is heavily browned with age, though evenly so; there is some discoloration in margins, and lower left corner is a bit bent. Frame with fresh mat and the margin issues disappear and you have a solid etching of Sacre Coeur. Dufour was known for his landscapes a...
One of dozens of drawings by this artist that I recently acquired, (ask to see others, not shown in my shop) this is a sketch in soft pencil on paper, the drawing and frame 10 3/4" by 22", signed at lower right, and dated there '65, by California and Massachusetts listed artist DAISY MARGUERITE HUGHES (1882-1968). Hughes was born and died in Los Angeles but in between she spent much time in the Provincetown art colony on Cape Cod. Hughes exhibited widely (even at the Paris Salons) and was a memb...
A miniature or small gouache hillside landscape painting (3" by 4 1/4"), 7 3/4" by 9 3/4" in silvery stand-up frame, signed at lower left "R. Becker". The artist is Russ or Russell Becker, according to a Christmas 1995 hand-written holiday note on the inside of the blue card to which this is affixed. I do not see an obvious artist by this name, but he was clearly talented. The scene appears western, given the reddish rocky outcrop. Condition is excellent.
Watercolor on paper, 6" by 15 1/4" (11" by 20" as framed), unsigned, the subject drawn completely in shades of brown, circa turn of the century or early 20th century, Included in the scene are a number of sail boats of various sizes, and there are a few coastal shacks and houses in the scene, as well as a few tiny figures. Most likely this is a work by an amateur from the east coast, perhaps Massachusetts or the like. The present mat is not professionally cut. I would recommend removing it a...
Small contemporary watercolor painting of traditional adobe buildings in New Mexico, a kiva oven in foreground, signed at lower left by Santa Clara Pueblo artist ROSALDA SPECKLED ROCK, wife of Paul Speckled Rock of local pottery making fame. This little work measures 5" by 7" in inexpensive black plastic framing. The artist is mentioned online as associated with a gallery studio offering her husband's pottery pieces, in northern New Mexico. I found this in Connecticut....no doubt, a souvenir ...
A hand colored lithograph of the interior of a Damascus house showing a cistern below a very high ceiled room surrounded by arches and a relatively small doorway to the outside on the opposite side of the point of view. Men in both robes and trousers fez and keffiyeh in various attitudes occupy the foreground and a servant (?) enters near the outside door.
The lithograph surrounded by a thin line with the printed information: “R CLIVE DELT.” (lower left). “DAMASCUS” (center) and “...
A modernist line drawing of a man in thin marker or ink, unsigned, the artist unknown, detail of the face especially indicative of the skill of the artist. The work probably dates to about 1970. Size 7 1/2" by 4" inside the mat, and 10 1/4" by 6 3/4" in silvery wood frame. Condition is excellent. Word "Al" written in pencil on reverse side. There are reflections in the images.
This is a small California painting on board of the sequoia or redwood forest, 8 1/4" by 11" framed, unsigned, protected behind glass. Condition is excellent. Frame is wood. Though small, the artist captures the majesty of the cathedral-like groves for which the state is famous.
Lithograph print of two little sisters, printed by Associated American Artists at mid century, signed in pencil at lower right by the popular, listed Sicilian-born artist JEAN CALOGERO (1922-2001). The print, 14" by 9 5/8" (19" by 15" framed), dates likely to the 1950's or 1960's. Calogero's colorful oils of children, and mysterious fantasy scenes including masks and Surrealist elements, are familiar to art lovers. This print has some paper browning but otherwise appears clean.
Hand colored lithograph of the excavation of two Lamassu, an Assyrian deity, at Nimrud near Mosul. They guarded an Assyrian palace. From Sketches between the Persian Gulf and Black Sea, Robert Clive. London: Dickinson, 1852. Robert Clive shows the dramatic unearthing of the statues.

A vintage watercolor painting of a Southwest style interior, with large barred window allowing light into a spar room with rocker, small shelf with objects, and plants. It is a simple composition but nicely painted by a talented hand. The work is signed at lower right but I am unable to make out the signature. The work measures 8 1/2" by 11 3/4" (13 1/2" by 17" in simple frame). The paper is toned with age and the frame has a little wear.
This is a small etching (6 1/2" by 4 1/2", 12 1/4" by 10 1/4" in metal frame with black mat) by the noted California artist HARRIET GENE ROUDEBUSH (1908-1998), titled at lower left "Flower Stand" and pencil signed at lower right by the artist. Roudebush was born in Portland, Oregon and moved to Sacramento as a youth. Art education in the Bay Area followed, in the late 1920's, and by 1932 she was producing etchings, generally of familiar Bay Area scenes. She worked until at least the 1970's. Thes...
