Ink drawing with some pencil outlining visible, subject an idyllic northern lake bordered by tall spruce or pines, a ti-pi with Indian at center left, a canoe plying the waters at center distance, signed at lower left "Leb-Wendell", 7" by 9 3/4", 12 1/2" by 15" as framed. At first I though this an etching but close up inspection reveals it to be actually an ink drawing with fine detail. One can see the pencil outlining and guide lines placed by the artist...

Watercolor on paper landscape of lush green mountains of Kauai, a mother and her child, palm trees and an historical one story building, the Waoli Social Hall, originally built in 1841 during whaling days as a mission church, the painting measuring 18 1/2" by 25" inside the present mat (presently unframed), signed at lower right "D Williams". The work is not dated but I would guess it would have been created around the late 1960's or early 1970's...

An example of the 1957 poster of a seated nude, titled "Andre Derain Dessins", by Galerie Maeght. The lithograph is framed in a silver metal frame with orange backdrop. Measurements are 25 3/4" by 18 3/4" (30 1/2" by 24 1/4" as framed). Derain was a major French artist in the first half of the twentieth century, renowned early on for his Fauvist works and later for a wealth of works, both drawings and paintings, many of which depicted the female nude. This is a late 19th century American painting by an anonymous artist, from the heart of the Victorian age. It measures 16" by 24" on the original stretchers (21 1/4" by 30" including the frame and probably original red velvet liner)...

Watercolor drawing on paper of two figures with a distant building that resembles a mosque, measuring 8 1/8" by 6 3/8" (21 1/4" by 17" as presently framed), not signed but bears reverse notation by Elizabeth R. Anshutz, the artist's daughter in law, and stickers from Christie's New York indicating that this was offered in the sale of November 19, 1991, and, more recently, Skinners...

Oil on canvas, 18" by 12 1/2", unframed, signed at lower right "F M Shane", and inscribed on reverse of the canvas, "Loveland Canon/Road to Estes Park/Colorado/1925". This work is somewhat primitive but the artist has created an interesting painting. There is a listed artist Frederick Emmanuel Shane (1906-1992), a Missouri regionalist who also painted in Colorado; conceivably this could be an early work of that artist, for some reason signed "F M Shane"...

A PAIR of Dutch drawings on toned paper, laid on a board, each 13" by 19" plus old French matting a few inches wide, unframed, each signed at lower right "L. Verschuier 1653" in an old hand. Puzzled by the pair, I sent images to the Sotheby's New York auction house Old Master specialists. They said that the drawings were likely 18th century works for some reason bearing the signature of Lieve Pietersz Verschuier (c. 1630-1656), a 17th century important Dutch artist...

PAIR of oils on beveled edge thick wood pine panel, each 11 3/4" by 6 1/4" (and 1 7/8" wide silvery modern era frames), each signed at lower right in flowing script "MORA", not dated but likely circa 1880's to 1890's. There are a number of artists listed with this name but so far I can't definitively attribute these to one of them...

Woodblock "Calme.'truck' " by Paul Jacoulet 1941, showing two Polynesian lovers in a scenic outdoors setting. Signed in pencil "Paul Jacoulet" with a red butterfly seal with title and date. Jacoulet was born in France in 1902 but lived his entire life in Japan studying and mastering woodblock technique producing 166 masterpieces.

This is a wall-ready unusually fresh and clean lithograph, hand colored, titled "Millard Fillmore/Whig Candidate for Vice President", by New York competitors to Nathaniel Currier, J. Baillie and Company. The coloring is green in the curtains and just a hint of blush on the cheeks. Size is 13" by 9" inside the double mat. There is clean double matting (rich forest green matching the curtains and inner mat is tan), and the black frame with a bit of gold inner edge...

For the collector of vintage plein air art, this is a classic drawing on tan paper executed in Italy in the year 1924 by well listed, frequently auctioned California plein air artist DANA BARTLETT (1882-1957). This drawing measures 8 1/2" by 11 1/2" inside the framing (12 3/8" by 15 1/4" as framed). It is signed in a longhand signature at lower left, and at lower right is inscribed "Venice Italy" and the date 1924 once again...

Gouache on paper, 19" by 12" (29" by 22" as nicely framed in complementary silver and gray), the subject "Iceland Poppies" written in pencil at lower left in addition to the artist's signature and what looks to be "61" as the date of execution--it's very small and hard to read. This is a rather typical example of the work of the noted California artist, JOAN IRVING (BRANDT) 1916-1995. It is very impressionistic and spontaneous and sure in execution, and in very fresh, excellent condition...

This is a circa mid 20th century still life lithograph of a pineapple, pomegranate and other fruit, signed in brown ink at lower right and numbered 41/90 at lower left by noted School of Paris artist ROGER CHAPELAIN-MIDY (1904-1992). The artist's works bring into the five figures at auction in the US and Europe, and the still life is his specialty. This print measures 12 5/8" by 9 3/4" (20 5/8" by 17 3/4" as framed)...

Large example of the work of the much-storied American artist "T. Bailey", circa 1910, measuring 24" by 36" (32 1/2" by 44 1/2" framed). This is the largest example I have been able to find, after a search of the auction records. Signed at lower right in white (partly indecipherable), this is also one of the more appealing examples in my opinion because it tends more towards the folk art and "China Trade" direction, and less towards the more commonly seen, and easily achieved, faithful photogr...

Oil on canvas painting of a small house in the trees, 22" by 26" (28" by 32" framed), signed at lower right "Stahl" and dated there "42", titled on reverse "In Laurel Canyon" and signed and dated again there.
