An example of the desirable original Currier & Ives lithograph print of 1864, "The U.S. Sloop of War 'Kearsarge' 7 Guns, Sinking the Pirate "Alabama" 8 Guns, measuring 9 1/2" by 12 1/2", plus gray 20th century frame about 5/8" wide. There is hand coloring of the blue sea, blue of the flag, and a little yellow and pink hue in the explosion on the foreground ship...

American (likely California) oil on canvas painting, 5" by 4" (8 3/4" by 7 5/8" in stained oak period frame), signed at upper right corner with initials "M.W." and dated there '87 (or, possibly, '97). Stamped on the stretcher is "Fred Rhoda/Fruitvale, Cal", and written in pencil in an old hand is " Whitney"; we can probably assume therefore that the artist is one M. Whitney...

Unusual watercolor of what appears to be a wagon on the plains, piled high with rocks perhaps, and, even, the skull of a buffalo, signed at lower right "P. PARSONS '96". The watercolor is on paper and measures 8 1/2" by 18 3/4" (15 1/4" by 25 1/4" as framed). The work is in excellent condition with no foxing visible. I do not see an obvious listing for the artist. Found in San Diego area. Recently, on the east coast, I saw a watercolor coastal scene signed in the same manner.

A fine pair of miniature portrait paintings, on natural organic material, housed in a 1/6 plate daguerreotype case, which is embossed in a cartouche on the front and back "M.B. Brady Case Maker NY". Cases by Brady are highly desirable and avidly collected.

As to the wonderful portraits, the first is of a bewhiskered gentleman in a black jacket, vest, and stock, and a white pleated shirt. The woman is attired in a black pleated dress with lace edging, and a white lace cap...

Circa 1900 watercolor of the heart of Venice, Italy, including the familiar sights of canal and gondola, St. Mark's Basilica church and the famous clock tower on the Piazza San Marco, signed at lower left "E.K. Coomber". This work measures 12" by 6 1/4" inside the mat and 18 1/2" by 12" framed. The artist though apparently unknown was talented and a master of the watercolor medium. The use of green painted wood panel background suggests the artist was familiar with the artist William Harnett and his style. This is a well executed impressionistic watercolor of haystacks on a marsh, a popular theme in American art, addressed most notably during the third quarter of the nineteenth century by the great Martin Johnson Heade, in the marshes of coastal northeastern Massachusetts. Oil on board painting of a winter landscape, unsigned, 15" by 18" (17 1/2" by 20 1/2" framed), executed by a talented yet still naive hand, circa late 19th century. A pleasing work for the antique house or Americana and folk art collection. Notably, there is some abrasion and scratches, principally at lower left center near the fence, but also a bit in the trees at left and right and one in the sky, and varnish is yellowed.
