Pastel on paper on board, of grapes and an apple on the ground, 11 7/8" by 9 3/4" and a simple narrow frame, unsigned, but very likely by noted mid 19th century American artist JOHN S. BOWER, known today primarily for his very distinctive studies of fruit in a landscape. See my shop for several other works by this artist, some of which are signed. Original 19th century albumen photograph by Jean-Pascal Sebah (1872-1947) depicting the old Cairo and the island of Rhoda (the photograph is titled in the plate l.l "Vieux Caire et Ile de Rowdah"). Signed in the plate l.r. Jean-Pascal Sebah was the son of Pascal Sebah (1823-1886). He continued the family studio in 1888 in Constantinople. The studio specialized in scenes of Egypt and the Middle East.

Large 27" by 33 1/2" (33" by 39" framed), oil on canvas still life cornucopia painting of fruit and flowers including tulips and carnations, in a basket set on a vaguely defined table top against a dark background, apparently unsigned, circa mid 19th century but in the tradition of 17th century Dutch still life. This came recently from a fine area home, where it was proudly displayed in the living room. I do not see a signature...

An original circa 1870's photograph of a sculpture of a warrior, in the National Museum of Greece in Athens, the photograph by the famed "Fratelli (brothers) ALINARI" of Florence, Italy. The photo measures 9 1/2" by 7 1/2" inside the mat and 22 1/2" by 19" framed behind (scratched) Plexi. On the reverse is a hand written not giving the Alinari name and title "Stele du guerrier Aristion/Museee Nationale Athens, Greece"...

This exceptional oval 60" x 32" French Painting is Signed Gustave Bouvard?? The painting was purchased from an antique dealer in Baton Rouge, La and he said the painting came from Napolean Bonaparte's Brothers Estate. It is signed in the lower left corner and is in Excellent Condition. Has original frame and stretcher. We are researching this painting and if you have any information please advise.

A PAIR of gold-framed, antique pastels of fruits, one a pear and grapes, the other peaches, apparently unsigned, but very much in the style of and possibly by the known late nineteenth century American pastel artist JOHN BOWER, who was known for precisely this kind of work. Each drawing measures 7 1/2" by 9 1/2", and frames are identical size at 13" by 15". Affixed to the frame reverse are typed labels proclaiming each to be "Unsigned"...

French late 19th century oil on canvas still life of flowers in various vessels on a tabletop, signed at upper right corner "J. Billou" (the "J" could be a "G" or "T"). Oddly I do not see a listing that would correspond with this name, but this is clearly a talented artist. The work measures 19 1/2" by 24" (22 1/2" by 27" framed). The colors and handling remind of some Renoir still life paintings. This was found "as-is" in northern New Jersey...

A circa 1868 albumen photo on thin paper, 9 3/4" by 7 1/2" inside the mat and 19" by 15 1/4" framed, with the blind stamp at lower left of noted early Italian photographer GIACOMO BROGI (1822-1881). The subject is identified at bottom edge in the image, as "Gerusalemme" (Jerusalem) and is assigned reference number 4019 there. This is a view of the so-called "Golden Gate", the oldest of the gates in the walls surrounding Old Jerusalem...

Diana Leaving the Bath (Diane Sortant du Bain), after Francois Boucher (French, 1703-1770). Oil on canvas. 2nd half 19th century. Offered in an antique tin over wood frame. This is an unsigned 19th century copy of the Francois Boucher original that was acquired by The Louvre, in Paris, in 1852. This copy was probably created within twenty-five years after Boucher painted his original.
