A nicely done watercolor in natural material portrait of a young woman. Complementing the blue background, the sitter is presented with blue eye shadow and a blue ribbon and bow in her hair. The glazed reverse of the gold filled case is covered with a nice display of woven hair plaits.

Condition is excellent, with a case size of 1 7/8" by 1 5/8".

Eighteenth Century Floral Study Watercolor 12”x7” on fine French paper

Manuel Robbe, French, 1872-1936, "La Parisienne". A beautiful subtly colored etching and aquatint, image size 19 1/4 x 13 5/8 inches, 1907, pencil signed in the lower left corner of the image. One of the leading French artists of the ‘Belle Epoch,’ Robbe studied at the Academie Julien and the Ecole des Beaux Artes, becoming a master of the aquatint medium. He developed much of his own aquatint techniques, which enabled him to create his uniquely painterly, richly colored images...

A circa 1960's to early 1970's oil on board painting in earth tones of dark brown, tan and cream, unsigned, 9" by 22" as framed in black with gold and an orange velvet liner (pure 60's!). The imagery could be purely abstract though to me, a skyline and reflection of that skyline in water is suggested----such as Manhattan from the New Jersey side of the river. A very Mid Century addition to your interior.

Pen and ink on paper drawing of three nude women in an interior, 10 1/2" by 7 1/4" inside the mat (18" by 14" as framed), signed at lower right "Michonze" and dated there "58". This is a work of the talented, interesting artist GREGOIRE MICHONZE (known early in life as Michonznic). The artist has displayed his mastery of line as his flickering pen created a work that is possibly a study but which is complete in and of itself...

This Abstract Expressionist painting dates to 1957, and it has a partial signature on the lower left corner. It measures 38" x 28" and has a small amount of paint loss. Notice the bright and unique colors and with heavy inpasto brushwork. On 5/3/04, I presented this painting to the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation for review where I had a brief meeting with the assistant director. The painting was not confirmed, however, the painting will remain under review and evaluation...

Robert Delaunay was born in Paris in 1885, a few years after Braque and Picasso to 1941 Montpelier. This stunning watercolor on paper is of the Eiffel Tower, 37cm by 25.8cm (14.6" by 10.2") signed LL. He was a big blond bright-eyed man, the son of a well-off engineer and so he was not afflicted by the poverty that befell most of his fellow artists. After training as a decorative commercial painter he took up an artistic career in 1904...

An example of the scarce "sur blanc" lithograph prints of famed French caricaturist and satirist artist HONORE DAUMIER (1808-1879), the 1851 print from the "Actualites" series, and Le Charivari. It is beautifully hand colored, with gum arabic highlights in the dark areas of the central figure's robe. Not examined out of the frame, it appears very clean and fresh (happy to examine out of frame upon request)...

Oil on fine weave canvas, 9" by 12" plus narrow wood frame, the subject various pitchers and other objects, painted in the typical style of the artist, and signed at lower right by French-American painter ANDRE GISSON (GITTELSON). The cool stillness of the scene takes from the still life works of the great modern master Giorgio Morandi...

PAIR of watercolor still life paintings of floral subjects, 8 1/2" by 7" inside the mat (16" by 14" framed), circa mid 19th century, likely American (purchased in Maine). Note the exquisite detail and color. Hand drawn mats add to the vintage appeal. Later 20th century gold frames are in good condition. One mat has old browning/possible water damage at lower right, not affecting the art.
