A contemporary painting of the famous Lone Cypress clinging to the rocks along the Seventeen Mile Drive on the Monterey Peninsula, near Carmel on California's central coast. The oil on canvas, 12" by 16" (14" by 18 1/2" framed) is signed at lower left by artist Florence Antree. The work is clean. I note a small hairline abrasion/puncture in the branches at upper left, largely hidden by the composition. A little appropriately matched watercolor around it would hide the issue completely...

Saarinen's model 61 "Grasshopper " chair was the first lounge chair he designed for Knoll in 1946. Responding to what he saw as the relaxed posture a sitter desires, he sought to support the seat, back, shoulders, and head in an organized way. His desire to simplify a form to its fewest elements resulted in the arms and legs all being connected and formed of laminated birch. Chinese ink and color on paper painting of a Xinjiang minority girl herding camels by Liu Dawei (b. 1945). Dated in cycle years to 1999 and signed in black ink Dawei with one red Dawei seal of the artist. Mounted for framing with a cream-colored silk border. Painting: 27” x 26 1/8” (including silk border: 35” x 34 1/2"). Very good overall condition. During mounting, a few barely noticeable and well executed repairs were made to small losses in the paper primarily at the edges...

A drawing, pencil with touches of yellow, lilac and even possibly blue, signed at lower right by one of Hungary's most important artists of the twentieth century, CZOBEL BELA (1883-1976). The subject, judging from other drawings by the artist, could well be a garden, perhaps his garden in Szentendre. The sheet measures 12" by 11 1/2" inside the mat and the entire sheet is 13 1/2" by 12". The artist, of Hungarian-Jewish heritage, was a student of Bela Ivanyi Grunwald...

From our African Collection: Democratic Republic of Congo Bowlegged figure, 4" x 10"h.

This is a difficult to describe painting----we see a beach on a summer's day, the blue sea beyond; budding clouds, a spiky yucca at left, and what look at first like children's sandbox toys in the sand, until it appears that maybe they're not children's sandbox toys. The "tower" at right looks more like a Greek islands windmill, the "sail" a takeoff from the yucca. There's also a starfish, a bucket, a brightly colored striped beach ball--and a difficult to make out signature...

Ovesized Japanese limited edition copperplate etching titled “Takafune Village” by Tanaka Ryohei (1933-2019). Pencil-signed, dated 2004, and numbered 8/100 in the lower margin. Paper size: 22 1/8" x 14 3/4" (image: 18 1/4" x 10 3/4"). This etching was never framed and is in excellent condition.

The subject is: Athens from the Tomb of Philopotes, it was created and printed in 1913, printed by the artist with his "imp" after his name in the lower border. The image measures 10 3/8X18 1/2 inches. This image appears in the Wuerth catalog as image number 656 and was printed in an edition of 40. This etching was originally sold by Frederick Keppel in New York...
