Oil on canvas of a clapboard cottage by a lake in spring, 18" by 24" with 3" frame, signed at lower left "J.C. FRANCES". I do not see a listing for the artist but he or she was obviously at the very least familiar with the paintings of Henry Pember Smith (1854-1907) and George W. Drew (1875-1968), who painted eerily similar scenes. This painting shows a gambrel roofed cottage with blooming pink blossomed trees and ducks----an idyllic spring idyll in New England or New York state perhaps...

Drawing, I believe in charcoal, 12 3/4" by 18 1/2" inside the matting, framed, but no glass, signed at lower left "M. Moss" and dated "March '93", the subject a large wooden house on a lake surrounded by mountains, small boats tied up in front. I think this is American but I suppose it could also be English; I'm undecided..........though, the framing suggests would make me lean towards American, as the reverse was backed by the typically American wood slats with knotholes...

A wonderful portrait of an attractive young woman, done in watercolor on organic wafer. The blue-eyed, red-haired sitter is in a black gown with a gauzy white top, highlighted by a large pink bow at her bodice. The artist carefully chose the ground color and the bow to complement the subject's coloring. The frame is period and probably original, with an eglomise glass cover to the painting.

The painting is in excellent condition, with no issues...

Oil on canvas, 12" by 16" (17" by 21" as framed---and likely original frame), signed at lower right by popular listed California artist HERBERT SARTELLE (1885-1955). This is a classic autumn scene of large trees and a lake with distant mountains, executed in Sartelle's unique impressionistic style. The painting probably dates to the 1940s or 1950s. It is in generally good condition, with the typical large cracking seen in a number of his paintings, (visible especially in the sky---see photo)....
