Henri Manguin is considered one of the founding father of Fauvism. He was born in Paris on March 23, 1874. Fatherless at the age of six years he was reared with his sister by his mother. At age 15 he decided to stop his education and devote himself to painting. Four years later, he left home and moved to Montmartre. Late in 1894 he entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts to study under Gustave Moreau...
This is a masterful drawing with a definite modernist touch, by well listed artist GENE McCOMAS (1886-1982), depicting a tropical house under palms, likely in the South Seas---the artist traveled to and painted Tahiti and nearby Moorea island. The artist was San Francisco-born, and is associated with the Bay Area and the Monterey-Carmel area, but she and her husband traveled extensively and obviously produced art in these exotic locations...

A PAIR of early portraits in pastel on paper, of a middle-aged man and woman (about 45 or 50 years of age), the male portrait signed along the lower right edge "E. Yohn 1841". The works measure 20 3/4" by 17 3/4" as framed. Considering the advanced age, condition of these fragile works is excellent. There is a small edge tear at extreme upper edge of the female portrait...

Eighteenth Century Engraving “Putti At Work” 5x7” A beautiful and rare work beautifully framed
This painting measures 24"x36". Helen LaFrance is a self-taught, modern, contemporary artist who is 99 years of age. Her earliest known painting is a 12’x20’ mural inside of a local church that was made circa the late 40's and early 50’s and she continued to paint into the early 2000's.
LaFrance’s work is represented in many notable public and private collections in this country and in Europe...
A nicely executed watercolor painting of a Mediterranean or Spanish style courtyard, the stuccoed white buildings with red tile roofs and grills on windows. Apparently unsigned, the work measures 10" by 13 1/4" (18" by 21 1/4" in circa 1960's or 1970's frame). This could be a scene of Spain, Central or South America, or, even, Southern California. Condition is excellent.
Fernand Leger, French,1881-1955. This stunning example of Fernand Leger's imagery at his peak period in the 1920's is graphite and gouache on paper...
Old watercolor drawing (perhaps charcoal in places as well) with slight use of white gouache, unsigned, the subject a younger man of the sixteenth century or thereabouts. The drawing (15 1/2" by 12") is on grayish heavy paper (the true color is indicated by the first two images---the subsequent ones were taken in different light, suggesting a more tan color). The age of the drawing itself is especially difficult to determine in this instance. I would guess that it could be anywhere from 1960...
Late 19th century watercolor painting of the famous Spanish Steps in Rome, an historical church forming the backdrop to a scene still iconic today. The painting is signed at lower left "Conti"; it is possible it is a work of the listed artist Tito Conti (1842-1924) but I cannot say for certain that he was the artist. The piece, which measures 12 3/4" by 8 3/4" inside the mat, and 22 1/2" by 18" as framed. Note the exceptionally fine detail throughout; the traditional clothing of the foreground ...
