This very well carved agate contemporary snuff bottle is almost 3 ½” high, 1 ¾” on the widest part and 1 1/8” thick. It is carved as “Hu” shape with two loose rings on each side. The darker color of the agate was carved into the character “SHOU” (Long Life) and makes the snuff bottle interesting. It is well hollowed, polished and in great condition.
An early 20th century pastel landscape of trees and a small creek at left, 20" by 27 1/2" as framed behind glass, no mat, signed at lower right by artist H. W. Carr. This was a period of great activity in pastel landscape painting; displaying original art in one's home, instead of a mere print, was considered a symbol of status. The frame is worn, with chipping.

This is a relatively modern Buddhist painting, done entirely by hand, depicting Lhamo, a Buddhist protector deity. Exceptionally well painted, as the photos will show, this painting was most probably done in Nepal. The painting itself, excluding the cloth "mount," measures 16" X 21". Given the quality of the painting, my sense is that even though relatively modern, the piece was in fact intended for devotional purposes and not as an item of trade...
Arthur J. T. Briscoe, British, 1873-1943, "Flooded Decks". This incredible image by the British etcher, Arthur Briscoe, measures 8 1/8 x 15 3/8 inches, inked signed and numbered, 73/75, created in 1931. Briscoe studied at the Slade Art School and the Academy Julian in Paris and then spent the rest of his time sailing, becoming one of the most prominent British marine artists of the 20th century. He owned his own three ton cutter which he used to sail around the Essex coast...

Haku Maki (1924 to 2000) was an important late 20th Century Japanese printmaker. He created images often using kanji (originally: Chinese characters) as the theme for his prints. He created about 2000 different images. Many are known. Here I present a number of images which I had never seen until this year even as I have gathered many...

Bio: Ernesto Alcántara (1933 - 2019) created a vast body of work along many themes: volcanoes, the Sierra Gorda, seascapes, landscapes, nudes, still life works, travel sketches, political satire, fairy tales drawn for his daughter, characters, with Sor Juana, Don Quixote, and Rembrandt being predominant.
His techniques include oil on linen, prepared by him in his studio with rabbit glue, linseed oil, and tempera; engravings on copper or zinc using burin, dry point, etching, or soft ground;...

A circa 1960's to early 1970's oil on board painting in earth tones of dark brown, tan and cream, unsigned, 9" by 22" as framed in black with gold and an orange velvet liner (pure 60's!). The imagery could be purely abstract though to me, a skyline and reflection of that skyline in water is suggested----such as Manhattan from the New Jersey side of the river. A very Mid Century addition to your interior.
A nicely done late 18th century miniature of a woman wearing a blue dress and white fichu, her powdered hair with an interwoven white ribbon. Presented in a gilt bracelet clasp mount. Excellent condition with an overall size of 1 3/8" by 1 1/8".
A nicely painted portrait of a fashionably dressed attractive young woman, done in watercolor on natural wafer. The painting and the ebonized wood frame are in fine condition. Sight size is 2 7/8" by 2 3/8", with a frame size of 5 1/4" by 4 1/2".
A relatively large (21 1/2" by 17 7/8", and 27" by 23 1/2" framed) chalk drawing of an idealized handsome nude male figure, likely by a talented student, dating most likely to the 18th century. Note the beautiful shading and modeling of the anatomy---the limbs and their musculature, and the strategically placed fig leaf...
For your consideration, a nicely drawn watercolor and gouache work featuring mallard ducks in flight over a marsh, signed in pencil at lower left by noted American illustrator WILLIAM SCHMEDTGEN (1862-1936). The drawing mixes sporting art with illustration art; the lead duck nearest the viewer glances almost mischievously, from the corner of his eye, at the viewer...
