A colorful little original oil painting on canvas, not stretched but laid simply behind a hand-made paper mat then placed in a colorful decorative picture frame, no glass, 9" by 7" as framed, signed at left by artist and dated there 1996. No doubt a tourist art piece, it is quite charming, reminding of Haitian and other Caribbean folk art. Condition is excellent.

A decidedly modern watercolor painting of five liquor bottles, painted in mid century colors, 11" by 15" inside the mat, 23" by 30" in interesting, vintage rubbed reddish gray wood framing, signed at lower right by artist "Linahan". I have been unable to link this to a known artist. The black outlining style of the imagery and, especially the colors chosen by the artist suggest a late 1950's or early 1960's date...

“La decent a la mer” Oil on canvas 21.7” x 18.1” Jean-Pierre Dubord was born in Rouen in 1949, and after spending years in the French Countryside, he returned to his native city to portray the surroundings of his youth. While Rouen is a favorite subject for his paintings, he often depicts Paris, the Normandy countryside, the beaches of Deauville, the Cliffs of Caux and Etretat and scenes along the Seine...

I thought this at first a print, the detail is so life-like and convincing, but closer examination revealed that it is indeed an original drawn work on paper, measuring 9 1/2" by 7" (15" by 13" framed). The artist must have had tremendous patience, or lots of time on his or her hands, to have created each leaf and flower. The work probably dates to the 19th century...

Oil on canvas landscape with mountains and river in a steep sided canyon in winter, 8" by 12" (9 1/2" by 13 1/2" framed), signed at lower left "F. Sima" and dated there 1921. Although the name suggests an artist likely of Czech origin, this painting's stretcher and materials suggests the scene was painted in America, perhaps in the Rocky Mountains of the west. A search of the standard internet databases does not show an artist by this name, which is surprising...

An unusual oil and mixed media sculpture and painting of a sailing ship, circa 1920

This is a masterful drawing with a definite modernist touch, by well listed artist GENE McCOMAS (1886-1982), depicting a tropical house under palms, likely in the South Seas---the artist traveled to and painted Tahiti and nearby Moorea island. The artist was San Francisco-born, and is associated with the Bay Area and the Monterey-Carmel area, but she and her husband traveled extensively and obviously produced art in these exotic locations...

Watercolor coastal scene with rocks and sea birds, tiny sails on the horizon, signed at lower left by artist Wang Zhi Bin (including artist seal) and dated there 10. 1991. A nicely executed work by an artist about which information seems to be lacking. Measures 16 1/4" by 23 1/4" inside the mat, and 23 1/2" by 30 1/2" in light-colored frame. The work is in excellent condition.

Large and impressive original acrylic painting on paper by Ruth Schloss (Born in Germany in 1922, died in Israel in 2013). This untitled works is signed in Hebrew l.r. It measures 27" by 19" (work alone) and 35" by 27" in its wonderful Lucite frame. In excellent original condition. Provenance: from a Manhattan estate. By the well-listed American artist JOSEPH MARGULIES (1896-1984) is this etching and aquatint print officially titled "Forever at Study", featuring two orthodox Jewish men studying the Holy Books. The work measures 10" by 12 1/4" inside the present mat opening and 15 1/4" by 19 1/4" as framed. Margulies was active in the New York City area and on Cape Ann in Massachusetts (Gloucester area)...
