Watercolor on paper painting of a lone figure in a clearing surrounded by summer trees, unframed, 9 1/4" by 14", signed at lower left "S.J YARD. 97. JUNE." This is an eastern-looking work though the subject is almost certainly somewhere in Northern California. Yard was born in Rockford, Illinois where he was able to become introduced to art. Still young, after further art study in New York, he moved to London, coming under the tutelage of Royal Academician Sutton Palmer...

Watercolor on paper river fantasy scene set in the tropics, 10 1/2" by 22" and 3" wide circa early 20th century frame in very good condition, signed at lower right "W W COWELL" and dated 18(last two digits not easily discernible, possibly "189_" or could be "1879"). This is one of the rare works of painter WILLIAM WILSON COWELL (1819-1898), primarily an east coast artist who also was known to paint in the Great Lakes area, and, late in life, in Nova Scotia, Canada...

A fine print by the noted artist THEOPHILE STEINLEN (1859-1923), titled "La Rafle" (The Roundup----of prostitutes!), color lithograph, pencil signed in olive-green at lower right, numbered in same pencil 99 lower left, with the blind stamp lower left of Ed. Kleinmann, Paris. The work measures 13 1/8" by 10 1/8" inside the mat (not examined out of frame, appears clean)...

Chinese ink and color on paper painting of a Xinjiang minority girl herding camels by Liu Dawei (b. 1945). Dated in cycle years to 1999 and signed in black ink Dawei with one red Dawei seal of the artist. Mounted for framing with a cream-colored silk border. Painting: 27” x 26 1/8” (including silk border: 35” x 34 1/2"). Very good overall condition. During mounting, a few barely noticeable and well executed repairs were made to small losses in the paper primarily at the edges...

Contemporary watercolor painting on paper dated 1993 by Zhang Daoxing (born 1935) depicting three female tea leaf pickers with white flower decorated aprons and flowers adorning their heads. A pony is at the lower left. Mounted with a white silk border for framing, it can be loosely rolled for shipping. Mounting: 35” x 35” (painting: 26 7/8” x 27 1/4"). Very good overall condition...

Australian "bark" painting, the painting itself (not including the panel to which it is mounted) measuring 25 1/2" by 11 1/2", bearing reverse label showing this to be a work of the well-known artist and respected tribal elder ENGLAND BANGALA (1925-2001). The handwritten label shows his age as 42, so this would have been created in 1967 or thereabouts. The label gives Bangala's tribe and tells the story of what we see: "The families have been hunting & caught a bream & 2 snakes ...

A fine portrait of a gentlemen circa 1860. Unknown Italian (Naples) Artist gouache on paper, measuring 16” x 14”

A well executed miniature of an English gent. The reverse of the painting identifies the sitter as Thomas Sheppard, painted by W. Bate in 1802. Presented in an unusual gold painted frame with the miniature displayed in the diagonal direction. The condition of the miniature is excellent, with the inside rim of the frame having a "ding" at around 2:00 o'clock...

A portrait miniature of a young and handsome man unabashedly directly facing the viewer. He is dressed in the height of fashion, wearing a black jacket, light orange cravat (which nicely matches his hair), and a white vest. Presented in a gilt cast foliate case, the reverse of which features a glazed tightly woven field of plaited hair.

Because of the convex glass, the photos unfortunately show reflections, white streaks, dots, and shadows, none of which are in the miniature...
