This is a 20th century restrike of the 1859 etching "Thames Police" (also known as "Wapping Wharf", by the famous American artist JAMES ABBOTT McNEILL WHISTLER (1834-1903). This was printed on a thick, creamy paper at some point in the 20th century. Details in the print are very sharp. The plate mark is quite pronounced. The work has some age, a guess would place this circa 1955 to about 1965. Certainly it is good enough to have been painted by a listed artist. The condition is acceptably good...

Papaluca is THE SON OF an artist who died in 1934, known for his depictions of the great sailing ships; works by the son, who emigrated to the United States, are very decorative and popular among collectors of marine art. The painting is in good condition with the exception of several lightly abraded areas, seen in the photos in the sails at left (and one at right portion of sails)...

French Artist Constant Louche 1880-1965 , known for depicting a North African scenes, this work is possibly Morocco, oil on canvas measuring 26” x 57”, framed in a custom frame carved with Arabic script. Born in Algiers, it was in this city that he began his studies, then in Paris, at the École des Beaux-Arts. He exhibited in Algiers from 1907. He is one of the best representatives of landscape painters from Algeria. He travels throughout Algeria but also in Morocco and Tunisia.

For the last four years, I have researched every aspect of this self-portrait to confirm its artist identity!! Today, I can confirm the artist of this self-portrait, it is ROY FOX LICHTENSTEIN!! I was able to match the 1956 signature to the “rather primitive notion of patterned linear repetition”, or unknown markings (which look like Hebrew) on the side of an airplane in the RFL’s drawing “AIRPLANE 1961”. Similar markings can be found on the RFL’s TEN DOLLAR BILL 1956 Lithograph...

One of three works in my shop by the same artist, F. KENWOOD GILES of Bermuda (1899/1900-1972), is this watercolor on paper painting, 18" by 22" (the largest of the three works) inside the mat, 26" by 30" as framed, (no glass and frame loose), the subject a white-roofed island homes on a finger of land bordered by water on several sides, flowering shrubs, coconut palms, a few pines or cedars, a meandering unpaved road and some small boats in the harbor completing the happy scene...
