A vintage, old, pastel on paper drawing of old steep-roofed houses in a mountain landscape, 10 1/2" by 15 1/2" (14 1/2" by 19" as framed, no glass), signed at lower right corner with initials that appear as "SHC.". The work probably dates to the 1920's or 1930's, judging from the style, and framing materials. The old paper has browned heavily and one can see a ghost image of the drawing on the reverse side...

Circa 1960's watercolor painting of a snowy street in New England, a white church at left and bare elm trees framing the scene at right, signed at lower right corner by artist William Carpenter. I do not see a listing that would seem to fit but the artist obviously was talented in the watercolor medium. Condition is very clean. All images were taken through detail-dulling non-glare glass of the period. Measurements 10 1/4" by 11 1/2" (16" by 17" framed).

Something of a mystery piece......a black and white photo, 12 5/8" by 11" including thin margins on three sides, (in a temporary protective-only frame), unsigned and unattributed, in a frame which bears old Christie's Los Angeles photo department sale and lot information that does not correspond with the image (I checked with Christie's photographs dept). The image of the moving train is in black and white though there is a hint of a pink/violet tint in a portion of the train sides...

Watercolor on paper by Marion Maas, (American 1930-2023) depicting a stylized view of buildings with night sky and blood red moon, with eye like features in the sky, all in vivid color in Fauvist style, stamped on verse with estate stamp. Measures 12" x 15 3/4", sight size is 8" x 11 1/4". On smooth heavy paper, the painting is both exuberant and intriguing, the intensity of color and shape create a dense and rich image...

Etching of an old style bridge spanning a small body of water, signed in pencil at lower right and signed in the plate there and dated 1962 by well listed Hungarian artist ISTVAN BALDIZSAR (1897-1984). The print, measuring 5 1/2" by 10" inside the mat, 14 1/4" by 19" simply framed, has a 19th century feel (or, earlier, actually). The artist has sensitively portrayed a familiar scene of his homeland...

A woodblock print on hand-made paper, the subject a female nude, as originally published in 1921 in the French language literary and art magazine Les Cahiers d'Aujourd'hui. According to information affixed to the backing, this is "original work done on hand laid paper", which was "string-tied" into the hand-bound booklet. CARL HOFER (1878-1955) is today considered a German Expressionist; his finest paintings have exceeded $500,000 at auctions...

Etching, in a style that exhibits both the fine detail and subtle shading techniques of Rembrandt, the subject matter three human heads, one head of a goat, and one, a ram, by the French draftsman, etcher and engraver, JEAN-JACQUES DE BOISSIEU (1736-1810). The print, 6 1/4" by 8" inside the blue mat (10 1/2" by 13 1/2" framed), is signed at lower center just with initials, the "DB" conjoined, and is dated there 1803...

An antique floral watercolor painting of a bundle of cut snapdragons, 15 3/4" by 10 1/4" (24" by 18" framed), apparently unsigned and undated, but likely circa 1900. Condition is good, the work is clean.

A fine woodcut print on Japan type thin, delicate paper, 8 1/2" by 6 1/2" inside the mat, no frame, signed in pencil at lower right and dated there 1931, a monogram in the printed image at lower left, adn inscribed "To Hal" at lower left, by the well listed artist IGNATZ SAHULA-DYCKE (1900-1982). The dramatic subject is mysterious and difficult to describe: a woman, perhaps somewhat sinister or even possibly Death, comforts a young girl, as a younger boy looks on from the right lower corner...

Oil on canvas laid on board paint of daffodils or jonquils in a painted ceramic vase, 16 1/2" by 13" framed, signed at lower right "N. Green". The painting I think if American and looks to date to circa 1940's or early 1950's at the latest. There is no apparent biography for an artist matching this name, but he or she was clearly talented...

Nicely painted watercolor painting of dramatic alpine landscape, the location identified on the reverse in old Germanic handwriting that is somewhat difficult to decipher, though we can make out "Schoberspitze" and "Hohe Warte", placing this in Austria. The Schoberspitze reaches 2602 meters (8535 ft.) elevation. Comparison with a photograph of the mountain range shows a startling accuracy with the watercolor...

Etching of children in a landscape, 8 1/4" by 10 3/4" inside the present mat (the full sheet 14 1/2" by 17"), not signed but printed information on mat provides artist name, a possible title "Hagyateki Anyaga" and possible edition ("5/50"). The artist is ISTVAN SZONYI (1894-1960). A student of Karoly Ferenczy at the Academy of Fine Arts in 1913, he had early exposure to the art colony at Nagybanya and its prominent and gifted figures, including greats such as Vilmos Aba Novak...

A black and white poster from the Susan Spiritus Gallery of Newport Beach, California, for an exhibition held in the spring of 1983 of the works of noted American photographer HENRY GILPIN (1922-2011), the poster **hand signed** by Gilpin at bottom center. The image featured is perhaps the best known photo by Gilpin, "Highway #1", the world-famous, dramatic coastal highway hugging the Central California coast. Gilpin, born in Ohio, served as a pilot in Europe during World War II...

Oil on canvas painting, signed at lower left "Charles T. Harris", late 20th century, the subject a red rock dramatic cliff of the Southwest, framed artistically by a large overhanging branch arching in from the right side. The work is very clean and ready to hang. This came from a local estate. The artist is talented but from what I can tell not listed. Size is 20" by 30" plus 2 1/2" wide on a side wood frame.

Japanese etching by "Norikane Hiroto", (1949- ), frame size - 9" x 6 1/2", image size - 3 3/4" x 5 1/2", signed and numbered "119/500" in lower area with double cut mat and rounded corner black wooden frame, frame work done by Kanda's B.O.Q Gallery in Japan. The condition is in beautiful condition. Artist history written in the back.

Oil on Masonite panel painting of a thicket of trees in the snow, 16" by 12", 19 1/4" by 15 1/2" framed, signed at lower left by artist S C Swiderski and dated there '86 with copyright symbol. The bare trees are accompanied by a lone pine or spruce which gives a bit of green color to an otherwise silvery white/blue palette. The impressionist work is very attractive and it is in excellent condition. Note how the artist used the wooden end of the brush to create a groove in the wet paint...

A vintage woodcut print in black with touches of yellow and red in the windows of the picturesque seaside structures, unsigned, titled in the image "NOEL", white speckles (sprayed?) indicating snowflakes, 12 1/2" by 9 1/2" framed. The scene resembles Maine villages such as Port Clyde or Castine. Likely a work from that region, circa 1940's, possibly 1930's. I opened up the backing and found no further information.

An original watercolor drawing of a familiar California theme: surfers at the beach, with lifeguard tower, palms, and two parked classic late 1940's Woodies vehicles. The work is signed at lower left "Dry......" ("Drysbock", or similar?) and measures 4 1/2" by 6 1/2". It comes matted but with no frame and glass. Likely is a contemporary work. Looks like a print but guaranteed to be original work.
