The most historic event of Kearsarge's history was her historic duel with the Alabama off Cherbourg, France in 1864 as it was the only naval duel in which an American warship was one of the principals. On 19 June, Alabama stood out of Cherbourg Harbor for her last action...

White Mountain Landscape
Oil on canvas 18” x 30” w/o frame
Benjamin Champney is synonymous with White Mountain paintings of the 19th century. Most art historians consider him the founder of the White Mountain School of painters who came to North Conway and the surrounding area during the second half of the 19th century. His paintings were often used to make chromolithographs that were subsequently sold to tourists who could not afford Champney's originals...
Gouache and watercolor on grayish tan paper, 7" by 9 1/2" inside the present mat (14 1/2" by 17" as framed), signed at lower left by listed French academy artist PIERRE FREDERIC LEHNERT (1811-?). Antique Carved Oak Statue of a Monk holding a book and seated on a curved bench. Probably American, circa 1880.
9" x 9" x 14" tall
A well-executed watercolor of a tightly grouped bouquet of flowers. This may be a theorem made with stencils, though this painting looks as if it was done freehand. Theorems were more often stenciled on velvet. The style is of the mid-19th century. It could be either American or English. The frame is a good one of that period. The painting was almost certainly in an oval frame originally and the slight shadow around it is evidence of that frame...
A primitive, circa 1880's oil on gray board landscape painting in the Hudson River style, with trees, water, and tiny figures completing the view. Measurements are 18 3/4" by 24 1/2", unframed. There is no signature. The board is slightly warped from old moisture exposure, which caused paint instability/flaking/losses at top couple of inches, as shown, and cracking at lower right. There are also a few light abrasions as shown.
