The artist is ISTVAN SZONYI (1894-1960). A student of Karoly Ferenczy at the Academy of Fine Arts in 1913, he had early exposure to the art colony at Nagybanya and its prominent and gifted figures, including greats such as Vilmos Aba Novak...

More than 10 detailed, fine pen and ink drawings, on one sheet measuring 19 3/4" by 16", most featuring male figures, signed at upper left center "Al Wiles". Wiles was active in the Seattle area at mid century. The style of the drawing takes from Jose Luis Cuevas, a little bit of Surrealism in spots from Salvador Dali, and Eugene Berman. Abstraction Work Unsigned Acrylic with Found object 30x20” beautiful work

Old American landscape with trees framing a lake, 8" by 10", 12" by 13 3/4" in the gold frame, signed at lower right with name "H. Wolosky". The oil on board work probably dates to the 1920's or 1930's. I do not see an obvious artist name that I could link to this piece. A Cooper Union (New York City) old circular label remains affixed to the back of the board. Condition is vintage good, no problems.

A fine portrait miniature attributed to John Downman, although Charles Hayter is a secondary possibility. Simply attired in a white gown, and with powdered hair, the sitter is shown with a pensive and somewhat downcast expression. Presented in a gold frame, the glazed reverse having a plaited hair border and a hairwork wheat-sheaf with seed pearls on opalescent glass...

Meet Captain William Hathaway, of Brooklyn NY, who passed away in 1834, according to the original section of his obituary, which was found inside the case of the miniature. Please note the gold anchor centered on his ruffled shirt.

The painting is finely done, with no condition issues. Any apparent flaws are due to my poor photographic skills. The in-person brightness is about midway between the first two photos...

This etching is hand signed in pencil and has an image size of 8 3/8X15 3/8 inches. Printed in an edition of 100 in 1939. This image appears in the Giardina catalog as image number 196. Printed on a medium weight laid type paper.
