A brown ink drawing of two standing men in conversation, signed at lower right in Hebrew script. A Hebrew reader tells me the signature could read "Yashkovsky" or "Shaikovsky" or similar. The work measures 8" by 6" (15 1/4" by 13" framed). The drawing was likely executed circa 1960's to 1980. A simple work which demonstrates the skill of the draftsman.

An original drawing of early twentieth century biplane and car, 9" by 12" (17 1/2" by 20 1/2" framed), signed at lower right "Lantz". The work is most likely for an advertisement, for publication. The unusual name makes it tempting to link this to the famed Woody Woodpecker artist Walter Lantz (1899-1994)---and it was found in Southern California, where he worked at the Hollywood studios----but the signature is dissimilar and the work is not the cartoon art for which he is so well known...

A small watercolor on paper within an oval, featuring a short vase filled with wildflowers, the piece measuring 8" by 7" as framed; at the lower portion in pencil is an inscription in German: "Die Heimat Blumen Grussen Dich", and "Plauen Mai 1920". This translates roughly as "the flowers of home/homeland greet you". "Heimat" evidently is a German word with no clear translation into English...

Oil on canvas laid against board painting of historic ancient structures apparently on a coastline, 11 1/2" by 9" (19" by 16" framed), signed at lower left in Hebrew script. There is a second painting on the reverse signed "Hausner" and dated 1979. A reader of Hebrew has confirmed that the signature in that language also reads "Hausner". The scene of buildings is almost expressionistic as opposed to impressionistic. There is a brooding darkness to the sky and a vigor to the brushstrokes...

A small but nicely executed watercolor painting of the dramatic mountains surrounding Mexico's commercial capital, the city of Monterrey in Nuevo Laredo state in the northeastern part of the country. The work is signed in red at lower right "A. Hoeck" and dated there 1909. The artist was a relative of a Santa Monica, California artist who recently passed away, and this was found among her personal effects...

A pleasing image of what appears to be a colonial church, perhaps in Brazil, or elsewhere in Latin America, or Mediterranean Europe (Portugal?----the architecture of the building suggests Brazil or Portugal) where palm trees grow; the apparently unsigned work, 7 1/2" by 5 1/2" (12" by 10" in gold framing) is, I believe, a monotype...

The work is executed in charcoal with a little white gouache, on paper, the unframed sheet 12" by 10", signed at lower right in the artist's typical manner. Gladys Emerson Cook (1899-1976) was known for her sensitive and accurate depictions of dogs, cats and other animals. She was a painter, illustrator, and graphic artist. Today a number of museums include her works. She exhibited at the National Academy of Design and other major venues...

David Teniers the Younger (Dutch 1610-1690) copper plate engraving of men and perhaps a woman gathered around a table in a house with a rough floor, a bed alcove and some implements on shelves and hooks. The focus of the print is a man playing a violin while a standing man with drink in hand addresses him, perhaps singing, as is a seated man. Another man, behind the musician, reads and possibly sings from what looks like a broadside...

Old watercolor and gouache painting of pink roses, unsigned, first half of the 20th century, 15 1/2" by 31 1/2" framed. The long and narrow work is very clean and ready for that special wall. Has a very shabby chic feeling.

This is an original hand-colored, 19th century lithograph print by the iconic American ornithologist and naturalist artist JOHN J. AUDUBON, from the nineteenth century series in the small octavo size. Inside the present mat, dimensions are 6" by 10" (13 1/4" by 17 1/4" as framed). The title is "Clapper Rail or Salt Water Marsh Hen" and this is Plate number 310 in a long series of bird prints in the small octavo size...

Print of an Austrian mountain village under a towering mountain range in winter, printed in grays, black and white with some subtle color, on silk, 10 3/4" by 13 1/4" inside the mat, 21 1/2" by 23" in silvery gray frame, pencil signed at lower right margin by the noted Austrian artist HANS FIGURA (1898-1978). Figura is known for his aquatints on paper and silk, featuring scenes of the Tyrolean Alps, Venice, other European locales, and even New York and elsewhere in the United States...

Oil on canvasboard, 18" by 24", the subject dramatic, fluted, snowy mountain ridges pictured perhaps in late fall, as autumnal colors dominate the creekside grasses in the foreground, the painting signed at lower left "A. Nebeker" and dated there 1966. The location might be but I feel it could be most likely somewhere like Utah or Colorado in the intermountain West, or possibly the eastern slope of the Sierra in California...

Oil on board painting of a winter landscape, unsigned, 15" by 18" (17 1/2" by 20 1/2" framed), executed by a talented yet still naive hand, circa late 19th century. A pleasing work for the antique house or Americana and folk art collection. Notably, there is some abrasion and scratches, principally at lower left center near the fence, but also a bit in the trees at left and right and one in the sky, and varnish is yellowed.

Watercolor on paper, 12 1/2" by 9 1/2" inside the mat, 18 1/2" by 14 1/2" as framed, the subject the Museum of Wooden Architecture in Suzdal, Russia. Suzdal is in the province of Vladimir, approximately 150 miles northeast of Moscow. The work is signed at lower right by the talented contemporary Russian gallery artist NIKOLAI TROSCHENKOV (1961-) and dated there 1989, and at lower left, I'm told, is the name of the town (all this related to me by Russian speakers)...

If you are a decorator looking for a "look" without spending the bigger money, here is an interesting option: a PAIR of works (11 3/4" by 22" framed) that for all the world, look like antique Italian watercolors of the 19th century, featuring coastal ruins and boats in Naples waters with Vesuvius in the distance, and a coastal scene with Capri offshore...

Mid nineteenth century watercolor, gouache and gum arabic drawing on paper of a young woman with the ringlet hair and prim dark dress fashionable at the time, holding the back of a Hitchcock chair, all against an extensive landscape. The drawing measures 6" by 4 1/4" inside the mat, and comes with a newish 1" wide gold colored frame. I don't see a signature.
