A beautiful fresh example of a 1969 poster featuring the work of famed Mexican artist RUFINO TAMAYO (1899-1991), **HAND SIGNED** by the artist in ballpoint pen at lower left just above the white "Tamayo". The poster commemorates one of many exhibitions of the artist's work at the well-known Bernard Lewin Galleries in Palm Springs and Beverly Hills, California. Tamayo and Lewin had a longtime business relationship, Lewin promoting Tamayo tirelessly...

This pastoral scene depicts sheep in a mountainous area, causing me to believe that it may be European in origin. The artist has captured 6 sheep peacefully grazing on grass, with no shepherd seen. The serenity is enhanced by the calming green of the grass and the blues of the sky and distant mountain. The linen on canvas is mounted on board, and framed under glass in what I believe is a refurbished frame which is generally in excellent condition...

Oil on canvas painting of flowers in a vase, "Gladiolas", 21" by 18", signed at lower right "Shimo" and dated there 59. The artist is OSAMU SHIMODA (1924-2000). This work came out of an eclectic collection of mostly mid 20th century Hawaiian art, much of it apparently purchased in Hawaii at that time; this one retains an old label on stretcher from Sima's Art Gallery, Ala Moana Center, Honolulu 14, Hawaii...

This splendid oil on board renders a charming cape cod house overlooking the ocean. There is a road passing to its front. It is all too serene and peaceful. Given the calmness of the waves, speculate that the ocean is the Pacific. It is signed E Harkins in the lower left. Its simplicity and unpretentiousness reminds me of Edward Hopper's or Andrew Wyeth's work...

A hard to find lithographic print by Andrew Wyeth entitled Flour Mill, published by the New York Graphic Society in 1985. The print is still in its cellophane wrapper, mounted on a foam board. It is housed in an economy frame.

The elements of this composition conspire to impress the viewer with poignant simplicity and elegance.

Unsigned oil portrait of a woman in her 30's or 40's, painted on a ceramic plate, roughly 10" to 11" diameter (squarish shape). The piece is likely by the noted Chinese-Californian artist George Chann (also known by his Chinese name Chen Yin-Pi) (1913-1995), judging from the distinctive technique. The plate is marked on the back "Poppytrail by Metlox/Made in California"...

A contemporary (new/newish) oil on canvas painting of a late 19th century hybrid sail and steamship, (of the type common in the 1880's and 1890's), 24" by 36" (35" by 46 1/2" framed), unsigned. Beautifully hand painted by an obviously skilled artist. Condition is excellent. The attractive framing is very heavy and apparently of a dense wood. These sorts of paintings though not old and antique are appealing and being of more recent origin are usually found in good condition...

An interesting painting of a rather ruddy-faced gent, in a dark jacket with a striped yellow waistcoat, holding a book at the bottom center. The reverse of the case has blue and yellow striped fabric and a lock of hair, all under beveled glass which has worn reverse painted gilding. The gilded metal case is 2" by 1 7/8".

A charming first half 19th centrury miniature of a young woman. The exceptional thing about this piece is the wonderful high karat gold flip case with guilloche work (engine turning) on the front and back. The painting in this little gem is 1 1/8" in diameter and the case is 1 1/2" in diameter. Excellent condition.

On the back of the painting, it is written in Dutch that this is the portrait of Captain Lieutenant Daniel Mueller, 1745, a member of the ‘Constans’ regiment (a nickname in Latin meaning constant or steadfast). Antique (circa mid 19th century) watercolor and ink drawing, of the famous ruins of Palmyra, Syria, which were partially damaged during the relatively recent ISIS occupation of the archaeological site. Research indicates the piece is after an early 19th century print. Artist is anonymous. Dimensions are 9 3/4" by 14 3/4" inside the mat (with hand drawn lines) and 16" by 20" overall (unframed, just in the mat, which is laid down over the art). On reverse someone once wrote "Palmyra Turkey"...
