An ink on paper drawing of a man holding a cigarette, unsigned, 6 3/8 " by 5 3/4" inside the mat (12 1/2" by 10 1/2" simply framed). When I first saw this my thoughts drifted to accomplished ink line drawings by the American master artist Ben Shahn, or, possibly, German Expressionism (Georg Grosz, etc.). Papua New Guinea Large Life Size Important Sculpture measuring 82x15” Beautiful polychrome piece of a warrior circa 1960

Likely painted for the southern tourist trade between about 1920 and 1950 or so, is this oil on a slice of palmetto wood, roughly oval shape, approximate dimensions 10" by 13", the slab 1" thick, signed at bottom left in the image "A. Donhauser". This locale could be anywhere from Texas through Georgia, given the Spanish Moss on the tree. The palmetto slab is unusual and adds interest. An unusual item. There is a small loss on the tree trunk.

Provenance: the Arthur and Joe Robinson collection, Harrison, New York. Jacques Koslowsky was born in Lithuania. He studied art in Florence and at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris (from 1932 on). He had a studio in Montparnasse, where he frequented the great artists of the pre-war period...

The name seems to be of Czech origin, and I have not located information on the artist. There is evidence of very slight hand coloring in blue, yellow and pink...
