Thames Police James Abbott McNeill Whistler This is an original etching by James Whistler. The title is: "Thames Police" It was created in 1859 as part of his Thames Set series on life on the river. The image measures 5 15/16X8 7/8 inches. Printed on a thin laid type paper. Very richly inked, the Fifth state of Six. An early rich inking. Good condition, there is a tear upper right corner of the border, away from the image area. Enough border for proper presentation...

Etching on very thin paper, "Charles Baudelaire, de Face", 1865, later, likely posthumous impression, by the famous French artist EDOUARD MANET (1832-1883). The work measures 3 3/4" by 3 1/4" inside the plate mark, and the sheet measures 8 1/4" by 6 1/4". This is Guerin #38 in the catalogue raisonne, and probably the 4th (final) state. The paper being very thin and flimsy, would lead me to believe this would NOT be a twentieth century restrike. There is a simple modern frame...

An intriguing Bronze by the Italian sculpture Tommaso Campajola interestingly titled measuring 16 inch height and 12 inch diameter base which is black sculpted marble. Born in Naples Italy in 1855, there is not much on the artist but he worked in his lifetime in Europe on several commissions. This work was done after a barmaid that was known all of Naples for her loving care to customers at the Gambrinus Cafe. This work dates to about 1880 and is signed

Oil on canvas, relined, measuring 17" by 21" (24" by 28" as framed) signed at upper left in red by listed Italian painter CLAUDIO RINALDI (and below which he wrote "Firenze"---where he was active between the 1860's and 1890's). There doesn't seem to be a lot of information available on the artist, but the subject matter and the handling of the faces are consistent with a number of other works by his hand that have appeared on the market in Europe and America...

Bauer was born in The Hague and died in Amsterdam but in his lifetime strayed far from the confines of the Netherlands, visiting the Middle East, India, Russia, North Africa and the Dutch East Indies.
