Sometimes he is listed as Samuel JAMES Clark--there appears to be some confusion in the auction record...

Mid nineteenth century watercolor, gouache and gum arabic drawing on paper of a young woman with the ringlet hair and prim dark dress fashionable at the time, holding the back of a Hitchcock chair, all against an extensive landscape. The drawing measures 6" by 4 1/4" inside the mat, and comes with a newish 1" wide gold colored frame. I don't see a signature. The gum arabic has oxidized and aged and is crackly, with tiny losses in the sleeve, and her lower face has lost some detail...

Antique 18th-century large wood sculpture of the Sorrowful Virgin Mary, Blessed Virgin Mary. The sculpture is beautifully polychrome on gesso. On top of an integral octagonal pedestal base stands Holy Mary. Her finely carved black hair flows and her face is in a state of spiritual ecstasy, her hands clasped in a prayer posture...

Lovely antique oil signed at extreme lower right corner by the Dutch master artist JAN JACOB COENRAD SPOHLER (1837-1923), the subject a classic canal in summer, the scene including windmills, boats, houses, churches (Utrecht, Leiden?) and tiny figures. The work measures 8 1/2" by 13 1/2" (10 1/2" by 15 1/2" in older 20th century frame). The work is very typical of his paintings, many of which show ice skaters in the winter. Larger works have reached $40,000 at auction in the Netherlands...

From a high end Southern California estate, a fine oil on canvas laid down on Masonite, 23" by 18 3/4" (27 1/2" by 23 1/2" in late 20th century frame), apparently unsigned, in the style of the renowned 17th century Dutch artists such as Jan de Heem...

Oil on unusual crimped/bent metal tin panels, each extensive landscape painting measuring 5 1/2" by 9 1/2" and about 1 1/2" margin all around, each signed at bottom in red "H. ROUX". These are beautifully painted works of the nineteenth century by an apparently listed Swiss artist. The pair has some scratches and small abrasions in a few spots, and one has a scratched area at top extending into the gold margin; but, these flaws are not so significant as to affect the overall impression. There are modern-day notations on the framing paper: "....Casimir Le Comte after Gustave Boulanger, 2nd state, 1856, and "from Kennedy & Co."
