Between the Baule and the Yaure to the west, the Malinke to the north and the Bete and We to the south, the Guro people live surrounded by savannah and forest. Kim Ki-Chang: 김기창 [金基昶, (1913~2001): A Fine Three Girls “Teeter Totter” Playing with a Wood Panel Board: Korea, Framed. In a new year day, three girls playing “teeter totter” with a wood panel board, a girl holding a child on her back and watching at the play ground in front of Korean houses with wearing a Korean traditional new year costume cloth. It’s in very good condition with a silk mounting and frame, it measures 43cm x 34.5cm.

A watercolor on paper of a fruit seller’s stall or shop with a display of many different fruits while the merchant weighs fruit for two children, a woman turns away with figs in her basket and a young man in the shadows of the awning looks out, perhaps at the young woman with the figs. The watercolor shows touches of gouache and a few places the dark heightened with gum arabic. The paper is 13 ½ x 16 ¾ inches (34 x 42 cm) and the mat opening is 11 ¼ x/14 ¼ (28.5 x 36 cm)...

A miniature portrait by M.E. Mynerts (also referenced as W.E. Mynerts). Glazed and housed in a cast foliate case measuring 2 3/4" by 2 3/8", with an unglazed aperture on the reverse containing a braid of hair. The overall condition of the painting is excellent, with no cracks, chips, bowing, or restoration. The case is also in excellent condition.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: Very little is known about Mynerts, and his miniatures are quite rare, with only one signed example found...
