Oil on canvas laid on Masonite, 20" by 16" (27" by 23" nicely framed in gold California style frame by Summit Frames of San Diego), unsigned, attributed to the famed American sculptor and artist, JOHN GUTZON BORGLUM (1867-1941). The painting features a large tree such as would be found in a California redwood or sequoia forest. The attribution comes in the form of some cryptic notes on paperwork affixed to the reverse side, and a placard placed on the front side...

A very fine miniature of a young lady, done in watercolor on organic wafer. Signed lower right "Becker Px". The sitter is a wearing a gown with elaborate bows along the neckline and sleeves, and a pink sash. The glassless gilded wood frame is original to the painting.

There is a good amount of information on the back, some of which is missing or hard to make out...

A 19th century or circa 1900 American watercolor of a coast with lighthouse and offshore steamship, 5 3/4" by 9" (13" by 16" in mid 20th century frame), unsigned. The scene could be the Hatteras lighthouse on the North Carolina coast. Nicely done with a charmingly primitive hand. The watercolor was laid down on a cardboard. Condition is excellent...

A very well executed oil on canvas coastal landscape painting, square shape at 23 1/4" by 23 1/4" (28 3/4" by 28 3/4" in cream-color laminated framing), the scene a traditional picturesque small fishing craft of Southeast Asian waters, with several figures and distant craft loosely suggested, the work signed at lower right with what appears as "Sobinto". There being no artist by this name I have explored online the other possibilities...

This unusual and inventive designed leaf shape snuff bottle is 3 inches tall 2 ½ inches wide and less than 1 inch thick. The color is from beige to burgundy and very well polished and hollowed. It depicts three squirrels chasing each other under grapevine. The workmanship is excellent. The artist Chen Ke uses the natural color of the stone so well, it looks like inlay or overlay work. An impressive, good sized (inside the mat measurements 28 3/4" by 21 1/4", and 35 1/4" by 27 1/4" as framed in silvery metal behind Plexi) lithograph of images of fractured/destroyed/recomposed violins, a recurring theme in the popular imagery and sculpture work by the French-born contemporary artist ARMAN (1928-2005)...

One of dozens of drawings by this artist that I recently acquired, (ask to see others, not shown in my shop) this is a fine image in soft pencil and ink on paper, the drawing itself 10" by 13 1/2", in a simple frame without mat, signed with initials at right and dated '65, by California and Massachusetts listed artist DAISY MARGUERITE HUGHES (1882-1968). Hughes was born and died in Los Angeles but in between she spent much time in the Provincetown art colony on Cape Cod...

Unframed oil on canvas painting of young faces, signed at lower right by artist "S. Lewis". The work measures 14" by 11". It may date to circa 1980 to 2000. Other than minor edge losses at top from frame abrasion, condition is very good, though the surface is not varnished.

An oil on canvas painting of an older priest or monk eavesdropping on the conversation of a pair of younger men of the cloth in a richly-appointed, classic interior (library or study), signed by artist at lower left "M. Klein Wylock". This detailed, finely painted work dates to the late 20th century, but the artist was clearly familiar with the similar works of the late 19th century by German, French and Italian artists working in the manner of Eduard von Grutzner (1846-1925)...
