A large, impressive watercolor of the American Southwest, featuring a temporary water course in the otherwise arid classic landscape (as one would see a flash flood after a sudden summer monsoon cloudburst) with reddish butte at center. The work is signed at lower right "R. Rucker" and dated there 1997. Measurements are 20 1/2" by 27 3/4" (31 1/2" by 38" in white laminate style frame). Hughes was born and died in Los Angeles but in between she spent much time in the Provincetown art colony on Cape Cod...

Drawing in blue ink and watercolor, 14" by 11", in an inexpensive temporary protective frame, unsigned, a second drawing of a female head on the reverse. Judging from the appearance, hairstyle, this probably dates to before World War II. The anonymous artist created an interesting study with skilled use of shadow and line.
