Good-sized watercolor painting of one of the famous canals of Venice, a gondolier and his vessel featured in the foreground, signed at lower left by the artist, B. Venuti. This work, 22" by 15" (31" by 23 1/2" in gilded old oak early twentieth century framing), probably dates to about the turn of the century. I do not see a listing for an artist by this name, though there is a "Benvenuti" who painted similar works, so I entertain the possibility that this might have been signed with a pen name...

Foussa Itaya was born in 1919 in Foukouoka, Japan and finished his studies at the school of Beaux Arts in Japan. He has exhibited at the Salon Nikakai and in 1953 went to Paris to exihibit his works. In 1955 he exhibited at the Drouant-David Gallery, and many of his works are on exhibit at the Israel Museum, Carnegie Hall in New York, the Japanese Embassy in Paris, and in Switzerland as well.

Black Lion Wharf James Abbott McNeill Whistler This is one of the finest etchings by American artist James Whistler. This image titled: "Black Lion Wharf" was from his Thames series created in 1859. This image measures 5 7/8 X 8 3/4 inches. Printed on a laid type paper with watermark. This is an early printing between state iii/iv of iv. Very richly inked with extensive plate tone throughout. Very good condition, signed and dated within the plate at the right side of the image.

Watercolor and gouache painting of purple and white lilacs in a vase, unsigned, 12" by 9 1/4" (17" by 14" in pleasant quality antiqued frame with imitation wormholes). The work is laid down on a board. Colors are fresh and the piece is ready for the wall.

Impressionist painting of harborside buildings, apparently American as original "$70.00" price on reverse appears adjacent to title "Fishing Village" and the 1965 date---although the subject appears more European. Work is on Masonite, and measures 18" by 22" as framed in white and black painted wood. That framing is scuffed and soiled, shows its age. If you are handy and so inclined you could restore it nicely, retaining the original period look, or, re-frame...

One could call this work a homage to Jackson Pollock and Sam Francis: colorful drips in red, blue, yellow and gray, on an inky black background, 20 1/4" by 24 1/2" as simply framed in silvery metal behind Plexiglas. There is no signature. A fine choice if you are looking for original abstract art for your mid century or modern interior.

Gustav Langenberg was born in 1859 in Dusseldorf. Langenberg was probably one of the most widely traveled painters from the Düsseldorf School of Painting, who, after stints in Munich and Paris, also undertook very productive trips to North and South America. This work measures 20x24” done circa 1900
