A PAIR of gold-framed, antique pastels of fruits, one a pear and grapes, the other peaches, apparently unsigned, but very much in the style of and possibly by the known late nineteenth century American pastel artist JOHN BOWER, who was known for precisely this kind of work. Each drawing measures 7 1/2" by 9 1/2", and frames are identical size at 13" by 15". Affixed to the frame reverse are typed labels proclaiming each to be "Unsigned"...
Oversized Chinese copperplate etching of two large white birds with prominent beaks (possibly two albatrosses) by Wu Wulong (b. 1956) titled "Under the Moon." The print is pencil-signed and titled in Chinese, dated 1986, and numbered 18/20 in the large bottom margin. Paper: 24" x 19 1/2" (image: 17 1/4" x 17 1/8"). Very good overall condition. An example of the scarce "sur blanc" lithograph prints of famed French caricaturist and satirist artist HONORE DAUMIER (1808-1879), the 1851 print from the "Actualites" series, and Le Charivari. It is beautifully hand colored, with gum arabic highlights in the dark areas of the central figure's robe. Not examined out of the frame, it appears very clean and fresh (happy to examine out of frame upon request)...
Here is a prize for the collector of Californiana----an idealized view of a mission in the golden days of yore, painted around 1935 I would guess. There is a signature at lower right that appears as Y. Arnold or similar. The painting is on a coarse weave canvas, almost like burlap or jute, laid down on an old board, on the back of which is a color print of a landscape. Size is 30" by 24" including the simple narrow wood strip frame...
This is an elegant etching in grays and black on heavy white paper (or possibly could be considered an aquatint with etching I believe), the sheet measuring 29 1/2 " by 21 1/2", in a narrow modern simple frame, crisply pencil signed by the artist, with a Chinese symbol resembling a traditional artist's stamp at lower right (possibly for the word "Ping") and numbered 41/110 at lower left, and titled "Life" in English and presumably Chinese, at lower left center...

An unusually complex and modern mixed (pastel, charcoal) media drawing of ballerinas, 17 1/2" by 13 3/4" (27" by 23 1/4" framed), signed at lower right "Julian". This is a fine, uncommon work by noted California-associated artist JULIAN RITTER (1909-2000). The imagery features several ballerinas in various dance poses, the beauty of the female form the center of attention, as it usually was, in Ritter's art...
A **PAIR** of watercolor on paper paintings of tropical South Florida landscapes, each 15 1/4" by 19 1/4" (one unframed, the other measuring 21 1/4" by 25 1/4"), both signed by Wisconsin-born artist RACHEL STEARNS (1895-1979).
