Benton Murdoch Spruance, American, 1904-1967, "Set Pieces: Vanity of Trust," lithograph, image size 13 x 18 1/2 inches, 1949, edition of 30, pencil signed, titled and editioned. Spruance studied in Paris after winning the coveted Cresson Scholarship in 1928 while attending college at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. He studied with Edmond and Jaques Desjobert in Paris before returning to the US and continuing his nearly forty year career as a printmaker.

Kathleen’s work has been shown in the US department of State as well as many embassies around the world. She is known for her sumptuous Expressionist abstraction work. Rare gouache on paper circa 1940s by Emanuel Glicenstein (Glicen) Romano (American born in Italy, 1897-1984). This work measures roughly 12" by 9" (19" by 15" in its frame). It is signed Glicenstein Romano l.l. Glicenstein Romano worked for the Federal Art Project creating murals in the thirties. He created a series of allegorical works depicting the Holocaust in the forties and this work may be part of that group...

Original diptych (deep etch on zinc) by Wendell H. Black (USA, 1919-1972), circa 1961. 12 1/2 by 23 1/2 each. Titled l.l. and numbered 7/25. Signed and dated "Wendell Black 61 by Elaine". From the first edition of this work, printed posthumously by Berkley Chappell, and signed by Black's widow Elaine. No lifetime edition exists. cf: The Lost Works of Wendell H. Black, plates 22 and 23. The model in this diptych, probably the artist's wife, is also on the cover of the book.

This is a 8-3/4" x 7-1/4" numbered, limited closed edition engraving titled "ANGERS, CATHEDRALE" by the German engraver Karl (Carl) Max Schultheiss (1885-1961). Born in Germany, he moved to the U.S. in the 1930s, where he had a 1938 exhibition of his etchings at the Art Institute of Chicago...

Charles Ernest Butler, British, 1864-1918,Oil on Board. signed LR, Provenance:Private Collection, Leslie Hindman Auction, Private Collection, Milwaukee Born in St Leonards on Sea in 1864- 1918. He was a painter of portraits, mythological and other figure subjects, genre and landscapes. He studied at St John's Wood School of Art and at the RA Schools. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, 1889 right up until his death in 1918.

Warren Davis, American/New York, 1865-1927. This perfect painting is oil on canvas in its original frame. Signed verso and titled "The Ripple", it is the last oil painted by Davis in 1926-27, from the estate of his widow. It is in perfect condition with only a slight wave in the canvas which would easily be corrected by keying out the canvas. The back of the painting is intact with original paper and gallery sticker.

Watercolor and gouache on paper, 4 1/2" by 12 1/4", (10" by 17 3/4" in modern framing), apparently unsigned, but I believe likely by a member of the talented and prolific GIANNI Italian painter family. There are a number of painters going under the name "Gianni", possibly from the same family. Many works of such southern Italian scenes are signed M. Gianni, others Y. Gianni...
